If, by ‘lies’, you mean Rob’s description of the group as liberal activists, then you are on thin ice here. 

Auto salesmen often identify themselves as ‘client service representatives’.  Does that mean - by the logic you are applying here - that no one should call them con-artists?

People and groups identify themselves in flattering terms all the time. It’s ok for folks like you, me and Rob to describe them as we see them, and the way we see them may not be nearly so flattering.
