Chicago Mayor Richard Daley Blames Fort Hood Shooting On Guns
But it wasn’t the guns who murdered those people. It was the radicalized Muslim who was wielding them that murdered those people.
“Unfortunately, America loves Guns. We love guns to a point where that uh we see devastation on a daily basis. You don’t blame a group,” Daley said.
The problem for Mayor Daley and the other gun-control advocates who will no doubt be quick to pick up this mantra is that Fort Hood, believe it or not, was one of those “gun free zones” liberals think make us oh-so-safe:
Neither Smith nor the other victims of Hasan’s assault had guns because soldiers on military bases within the United States generally are not supposed to carry them. Last week’s shootings, which killed 13 people and wounded more than 30, demonstrated once again the folly of ‘gun-free zones,’ which attract and assist people bent on mass murder instead of deterring them.
Criminals like Hasan will always be able to get guns if they want them whatever laws our government passes. Because criminals don’t follow laws. But the law-abiding victims of this massacre might have been able to defend themselves, and stop Hasan long before he racked up the body count he did, if they’d been allowed to carry their own firearms.
Though one thing that has confused me is why Hasan eventually had to be brought down by a civilian law enforcement officer. Where were the military police? Are our military bases not more secure than this?
