Chavez Gets Standing Ovation From Professors, Union Organizers

Unbelievable...

After a UN speech in which he called US President Bush "Satan," Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez got a standing ovation with another anti-Bush speech at a New York college.

The South American leader spoke at Cooper Union last night before a packed audience including professors and union organizers.

Chavez proclaimed himself "a friend" of the people of the United States, but said he hopes next time, they'll choose, in his words, an "intelligent president."

He got the standing ovation for comments accusing Bush of committing genocide in Iraq.

Chavez is a dictator. The electoral system that put him into office is a sham, speaking out against Chavez in Venezuela will likely get you beat up by one of the dude's party stalwarts, and the guy is talking about appointing himself President for life. And let's not forget that he is a disciple of Fidel Castro, that he once called Robert Mugabe a "true freedom fighter" and that he supports Iran's push for nuclear weapons.

If this guy were a leader in America his shameful manipulation of the electoral process and his efforts to suppress free speech would have these people cheering for him incensed. They would chafe at having to live under his rule, yet because he does some Bush bashing and makes a ridiculous claim about genocide in Iraq the useful idiots in the crowd are on their feet cheering.

And he probably would have gotten the same sort of reception at a meeting of American "intellectuals" at just about any other college campus in this nation.

It's disgusting, and these people should be ashamed of themselves.

Rob, the first word of the body of this post is ‘unbelievable.’

You misspelled ‘believable.’

Chavez is a clown.

So what is stopping all these Chavez Suck-ups from going to South America?

Oh yea, life there isn’t as good as it is here.

This is further evidence that the left wing mentality is bad for the nation.

Ingrates.

remember Dubai Port?

well, I have a worst one for ya!

Why is Hugo Chávez Involved With U.S. Voting Machines?

The greater threat to our nation’s security comes not from Dubai and its pro-Western government, but from Venezuela, where software engineers with links to the leftist, anti-American regime of Hugo Chávez are programming electronic voting machines that will soon power U.S. elections.

free market rules!

here’s more

about Smartmatic (used at least in Florida)

Sequoia Voting Systems is a company based in California. Sequoia is one of the largest providers of electronic voting systems in the US.
..
Smartmatic International is the parent company of Sequoia Voting Systems. Smartmatic International was founded during the late 1990s by two Venezuelan engineers, Antonio Mugica and Alfredo Anzola. Smartmatic designs device-networking technologies, from which different vertical solutions have sprung. One of them is an extremely advanced voting system. Smartmatic claims to have the only fully secure and fully auditable voting technology in the world today. Some controversy has been brought onto them as their technology was used in a recall referendum for president Chavez in 2004. Chavez won by a healthy margin and the opposition cried fraud. The reports of OAS, the EU and the Carter Center can be found on Carter Center Report and the OAS Report. The technology was crisized by the European Union because the sequence of votes could be determined and the secrecy of the vote is in question. The EU also reported much government interfernce in the majority of states. The EU repot can be found at the 2005 Venezuelan Parliamentary Elections.

Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, D-N.Y., has authored a letter to the Treasury Department urging an investigation of Sequoia Voting Systems and its parent company, Smartmatic Corp. The letter said foreign connections in U.S. voting could corrupt elections

So, can I assume we’ll be bombing Venezuela soon?

You all need to get real. Neither Chavez nor Sheehan speaks for the majority of the left. Oh, it would be easier for all of you if they did, but it’s just not a fact.

If I remember correctly, the reason Chavez got a warm reception was for negative comments about Bush. Eighty percent of the country now agrees with these comments. That doesn’t necessarily mean we support the people who spout them.

The real issue ought to be why your president is so hated by Americans.

Update on Venezuela - they went from being a net energy exporter to having rolling blackouts.

“Democratic” socialism strikes again.

The “reality based” left should be begging for forgiveness while learning from Hugo Chavez’s failures. But with the left, ideology trumps reality.
