Charlton Heston Dies At 83

He was an outspkoken advocate of our Second Amendment rights. Oh, and he made some pretty good movies, too.

My favorites: Ben-Hur, an epic that defines the word. The chariot race is one of the best scenes in movie history.

The Omega Man, an end-of-the-world-last-survivor movie that Will Smith just re-made as I Am legend (roughly the same character and story line except that the bad guys weren’t rabid cannibal psychos but were religiously driven cultists psychos who hated anything modern and were determined to destroy everything they could get their hands on, sort of like Islamists that only come out at night).

Planet of the Apes. Heh. What can you say?

And Will Penny, a little known western about a washed up, aging cowboy stranded for the winter in a remote shack with a woman and her kid. See it if you can find it. It’s a low profile piece with some excellent acting.

A twenty one gun salute to Charlton Heston for his unflagging support of our right to keep and bear arms. I’m sure some of those on the left will rejoice in his passing. And I’m equally sure he’d have this to say to them: “Keep your hands off me, you damned dirty apes!”

I second the statement. Heh.

UPDATE: The Libs At The Daily Kos Are At It Already

From Stop The ACLU:

One poster said that Heston tore into the “victims of Columbine,” one Marcus Tullius said he laughed when Jerry Falwell died and that Heston’s death made the world a better place. And Fairy Tale echoed that with a post that said, “Things are already getting better in America” now that Heston was dead. RandySF said that he was sorry but that he “can’t think of anything nice” to say about Heston. Aqualad08 seemed to think that if there were “no guns in heaven” that would make it “hell” for Heston.

And it goes on and on, the usual spewing of bile-laced hatred from the enlightened, tolerant left. I am not in the least bit surprised. Class. Real class.

Damned dirty apes.

Don’t they know that when someone dies, you’re supposed to lie repeatedly and ignore all their faults?

Pilgrim: You forgot he played Moses in the Ten Commandments. He was a terrific actor, bigger than life and a patriot!

... and Yul Brenner as Pharoah was the perfect foil to Heston’s Moses!  One of the great films ever!!

My personal fav?  Heston as Michaelangelo in THE AGONY AND THE ECSTACY with Rex Harrison as the Pope. Another perfect play-off of giants.

Charleton Heston was Hollywood as it should be.

I always think of Heston as Moses, great movie…

I think Rob hates me… I mean, just look at the pic he took of me!

I keep trying to remember the picture where the Heston character was like almost the last man on earth until he found a young, pretty black woman and then some albino undergound people. It also had Heston with a formula that prevented people from becoming albino types. It wasn’t great but I liked it!

Neiman, that would be Omega Man from the early 70’s.  I saw it in the theater as a kid..

Thanks guys! When you climb past 65 it is hard work sometimes to pull out a memory with much detail, like the name of a movie. Thanks Atease for making me feel even older by mentioning you saw it as a kid.

My take on the Omega Man was up top:

The Omega Man, an end-of-the-world-last-survivor movie that Will Smith just re-made as I Am legend (roughly the same character and story line except that the bad guys weren’t rabid cannibal psychos but were religiously driven cultists psychos who hated anything modern and were determined to destroy everything they could get their hands on, sort of like Islamists that only come out at night).

Those were the albino people you were talking about. It was one of my favorites. A bit cheesy, but I’ve never claimed to have the best of taste when it comes to movies. I still like the Cheech and Chong movies, if that tells you anything.

So The Great Stone Face was only 86 years old. I thought the old geezer was at least a hundred. Him being Moses and all.

It’s just a shame that he had to be ravaged by alzheimers before going. Other than that, an old man who lived a good life passed. It’s certainly not the joyous day the Kos losers pretend it is...but it’s not terribly sad either. Have a drink for the guy, and be glad he had such a good life.

I did not know that such vile remarks had been made about Heston by some on the left. My aforementioned comments were made in jest. The last thing I did before my mother-in-law died in my arms was to utter a joke that made her smile. Then she slipped away. That joke helped to ease the pain of her loss to all of us.

So, if I said your mother-in-law was a syphilitic whore, you’d be jiggy with that, because words cannot hurt her?

Who would be so stupid, or childish, or classless to think that those careless words would not hurt or offend the family and friends of the deceased?

Aside from characterizing most of your posts, the point is, had you been paying attention (some of us still hope for miracles!)the statement:

And it goes on and on, the usual spewing of bile-laced hatred from the enlightened, tolerant left.

is quite accurate. How many times in just the last couple of months have the Huff Post and Daily Kos had to restrain or stop comments on threads about conservatives who had passed away because of the vile, unhinged rhetoric of the commenters?

How many times have you seen anything anywhere near similar on a conservative blog?

Examples of Pilgrim making vile comments about leftists that have died? None? Ok, thought not.

Give me a break.  This sort of thing is pointless on top of being stupid.  Both sides are guilty of this.  Unless you are completely ignorant of the reality, you have no business making such a ridiculous statement.

The examples of right wingers badmouthing dead leftists are next to non-existant. Ann Coulter eulogized JFK Jr. postively when he died. Even though Coretta Scott King was a massive leftist, no conservatives even pointed out disagreements with her upon her passing. Conservatives don’t even disagree with a leftist anymore once they pass. Indeed, sites like MichelleMalkin.com and TammyBruce.com post sympathy to the families of liberals when crisis is upon them.

There is no right wing equivalent to the mainstream celebration of the death of Charlton Heston, and you know it. Shameful.

Gee! Of all the cock and bull stories you’ve told here, this seems the most unlikely!
Are you shooting for zero credibility?

When my grandfather was in the hospital after his second stroke, and the doctors said he wouldn’t make it, the first thing I did upon seeing him was to crack a joke at his expense. Everyone had told me he was unresponsive...and to not get my hopes up. But upon cracking the joke, he gave the most mischevious laugh I ever heard him utter. So, I don’t doubt Wata on that. Telling a dying or seriously sick relative something to make them smile is completely in teh realm of believability.

It wasn’t the joke, so much as the: “As she died in my arms” bit. Possible, but it reminded me of Jesse Jackson’s “cradling MLK’s head in his lap as he lay dying” sort of horse hockey. (That too, was proven false!)

Proof and Kenney,

I don’t know if you caught it or not but I called him on some of his BS on his post he called “True Colors” basically calling law enforcement racists. Here’s what I wrote:

watashiwa,

Interesting piece, and your follow up comment is interseting as well. But here’s a piece of advice - if you’re going to post opinion pieces (like I do) be prepared for when people challenge you on them. Like I’m going to right now.

Law enforcement is your occupation? As what? And JC Penney security guard doesn’t count. Nor does “private investigator”. If you don’t have at the very least a POST certification then you aren’t in law enforcement.

You’re “hard on criminals” regardless of race? Yeah well, speaking as someone who just spent the last 19 years on the street I can tell you that my expression to them was that when I take out the garbage I don’t care what color bag it’s in.

And when I smell bullshit I tend to call it bullshit. It’s another of my many character flaws. Gettin’ a whiff now, just by the way.

If I’m wrong and you’re a brother or sister officer, then I’ll apolgize in the same forum in which I challenged you. But if I’m not - well, then, don’t bring it up again and we’ll all be happy.

Have a nice day.

He didn’t respond. Hmmmm. Maybe he got busy or something.

Yeah, Pilgrim, I caught that. I also noticed that he said law enforcement is my “livelihood”, not occupation. I figured he might be in uniform delivery, gassing up the police cruisers, or work sweeping up a local cop bar!

Hannitized,

Getting lonely in mommy’s basememnt? Miss me? How sweet.

The Huffington Post has closed comments on this article. Know why? Because their unhinged lefty loon readers would post ugly comments about a dead guy, that’s why. (to be fair I’m sure that many would be civil, but the ugly comments it be sure to generate would generate would bring some bad publicity to the site.)

Can there be any other reason?

So....you’re comment:

....is as invalid as most of your others are.

the jawa report had some of the “classy” responses from the democratic underground:

“Is he soylent green yet??”

“If Heston lived another 20 years would the world be a better place? no. I think not. Its just that simple. So break out the good wine. Drink to vanquished enemies.”

“I’ll see you at Nancy Reagan’s funeral. I will be the guy with the air horn and a big ol’ grin.”

“Rest in Hell is where I am coming from.”

“I had no empathy for the aging Nazis, either.”

“he was scum”

“If “liberal” means...feeling any sense of loss that some sorry piece of shithumanity such as C Heston has checked out?...Then sign me out.”

Both sides are guilty of this

Yeah. Right!
