Chad Nodland’s Unethical Source For Workforce Safety Information
Chad Nodland, North Dakota’s other political blogger, has gotten a few people’s attention with his posts on the North Dakota Workforce Safety & Insurance issue. And I’ll grant that he’s been quick to get a lot of information on that issue, and has been persistent (though largely wrong) in his posts on it. I, personally, no longer read his site as he is a dishonest person who routinely deletes posts that include inaccurate information and removes comments that are inconvenient for his agenda.
I have little time for such childish nonsense.
But what’s interesting is that Nodland doesn’t mention someone who is undoubtedly one of his best sources of information: His wife, Jennifer S.N. Clark, who is counsel to the state legislature’s Worker’s Compensation Review Committee. People like Rep. George Keiser, a frequent target of Nodland’s invective, sit on that committee and have no doubt confided information in Nodland’s wife who is, again, their committee’s legal counsel.
Is this not a rather unethical situation? What information has passed from Jennifer Clark to Chad Nodland that shouldn’t have? If Nodland is to engage in public advocacy on the WSI issue is it not his duty to divulge his personal interests in the matter? If Jennifer Clark is to continue as counsel to the legislative committee charged with overseeing Worker’s Compensation issues, shouldn’t she have divulged her husband’s advocacy? And, to be perfectly honest, removed herself from her position so as to avoid the appearance of impropriety?
One would think.
I think some serious questions need to be asked about Chad Nodland and Jennifer Clark’s involvement in the WSI issue, because there is certainly an appearance of impropriety there. I’m told that many in the legislature were unaware of Clark’s connection to Nodland, and upon learning of it weren’t happy.
Let’s hope the situation is corrected.
