CBS News: Asking The Tough Questions That Matter

CBS News reporter Brian Goldsmith asked Mike Huckabee whether or not Mormons are Christians.

Huck’s answer?  He stammered something out that wasn’t really an answer at all.  But the real answer is “Who cares?” Huck’s classification of Mormonism has absolutely no importance with regard to how he’d lead the country, and thus is irrelevant.

Goldsmith’s question wasn’t about informing the public.  It was about trying to get a public figure to say something inflammatory or embarrassing for the sake of sensational headlines.

Which, sadly, is pretty much all the mainstream media is about these days.

Christians are people who believe they are saved by grace through belief that Christ died for their sins.

In that light, Mormons are, in fact, Christians.  Yes, their religion is odd in many aspects, but they do turn out some good people.  Better than I can say for a lot of holier-than-thou, two-faced Baptists I’ve met over the years (and I’m a Baptist so I know!).

Face it, all religious belief is based upon faith.  I mean, c’mon, none of us were there.  The words we take as gospel that Jesus spoke were actually never even written down until 40 years after his death and resurrection - yet we accept them word for word?

Now that takes faith.
