Cap And Trade Passes The House By A Slim Margin

Share |

One so slim that, if 8 Republicans hadn’t crossed the aisle, it wouldn’t have passed at all.

The House of Representatives passed a sweeping climate-change bill Friday – a major victory for President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that left Republicans fuming about a “national energy tax” they said would exacerbate the nation’s economic woes.
The vote was extremely close – 219-212, with eight Republicans voting yes and 44 Democrats voting no.

Here are the eight Republicans we have to blame for this bit of nonsense making it through the House:
Rep. Bono Mack
Rep. Mike Castle
Rep. Mark Kirk
Rep. Lenoard Lance
Rep. Frank LoBiondo
Rep. John McHugh
Rep. Dave Reichert
Rep. Chris Smith
I’m not sure why any of these men should be allowed to call themselves Republicans after this. Republicanism is supposed to mean limited government. That is in the GOP platform. Requiring businesses to buy permission from the government before they can emit carbon and engage in business is not limiting government. In fact, given that no business in this nation can produce anything without emitting carbon, it’s a government control on production. Anyone supporting that is not fit to be a Republican.
Out of the party, as far as I’m concerned. We’re better off without them.
Republicans Jeff Flake and John Sullivan didn’t vote, for some reason. Not sure if that was procedural or what.
Anyway, on to the Senate where less populous but more coal, oil and industry-rich states have more representation. Click here to begin emailing your Senators now.

Dino’s entire response? Republicans suck. What a surprise!

Who cares that this bill will kill jobs? Republicans suck. Who cares that it’ll drive energy costs up? Republicans suck. Who cares that natural resources will spike and even the cost of food will rise? After all, Republicans do suck.

    What an asshat.

Too stupid to address the issue. Too moronic to do anything but squawk his one response “Republicans suck.” What a waste of flesh and carbon credits…

I wonder how long dems had to read the budget-busting presciption drug bill that bush rammed through Congress as a gift to big pharma? They left the voting open for HOURS in the middle of the night, an unprecedented move, so they could browbeat members to vote for it.

Your guys passed TONS of bad legislation in the 12 years they held the reins. See stems, that’s how we ended up in this economic shitstorm.

No member reads the whole bill. Never have. But all of a sudden you people are all academic and thoughtful. LOL, AS IF!

  4. Spartacus on June 26th, 2009 at 12:19 pm

If I find that my rep voted in favor of this bill every penny this legislation winds up taking away from the lifestyle that I’ve worked my tail off to achieve is a penny my Rep will not receive from me toward his next campaign.

  5. move_zig on June 26th, 2009 at 2:34 pm

I tried calling in to my Rep today. The phones were jammed or you got an outgoing message thanking me for my call but the mailbox was full.

Faxed earlier in the week and called my Sens yesterday on S.909.

There’s a major difference between the Republicans once they got in power and the Dims, once they get into power.

We sent Republicans into Washington and they kept acting as if they were the minority party.

Then again, there were over 900 FBI files that the Dims illegally snagged, giving them the goods on any important Republican and leak same to the press if they didn’t play along. Gosh, haven’t we suffered a series of outed Republican scandals on the eve of elections and recently?

Conversely, Leftist scandals seem to get strangled and fizzle out, like the ACORN investigation which has recently been stifled.

Unlike the timid Republicans, Dims, once they have seized the tiller of State, raid the treasury, gut the military and intelligence fields, aid and abet the enemies of freedom at home and abroad, and this is no exception.

They are truly traitors and the Domestic Enemy.

If there is to be hope for a peaceful recovery of the United States as a Free Nation, we all need to get involved in politics in a very real way.

    - Call your Sen/Reps often.

    - Write and fax them.

    - Get involved in your local TEA Party contacts.

    - Consider supporting or even becoming a candidate.

  6. Rabid American on June 27th, 2009 at 4:45 am

    CLEAN THEM ALL OUT!!!

Even, and especially. the ones you consider one of the “Good Guys”! This will send the correct message!

The “TEA Party” movement has already been co-opted by the politicians. You don’t believe it? Ask yourself, when did you attend one where a politician was not present? They are the problem! Not the solution!

They ALL have to go! Clean slate! “Do over”!

For all you lawyer types out there, get with your acquaintances, friends, family, and investigate class-action level litigation against these bums!

    Charges? ………
Dereliction of duty, failure to perform, treason, etc….. MAKE THEM PAY EVEN AFTER THEY LEAVE OFFICE!

THEY #$^%ing PASSED ANOTHER BILL THEY HAVEN’T EVEN READ…. AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

    ENOUGH!!

    On another subject….

As for DINO, I look forward to the near future when his ilk will suffer the boot, the fist, the lash, and the retribution they deserve.

You, assuredly are beginning to get that queasy feeling in your Lib-Kommie gut…. you know something is coming. You will reach the point that you will start losing sleep at night…… watch over your shoulder on an open street, and fear retribution for your treasonous ways……. enjoy the ride…….

A predictably stupid response. Bush did it before, so its okay for us to do it now. Is that your argument, Swish? Bush has a $400 billion deficit, so its okay for Obama to offer a $2 trillion (and counting!) deficit? Bush had 6% unemployment, so its okay for Obama to have 10% or even 12%? Bush had a 1.54% inflation rate, so ts okay for Obma to ratchet that up to 5-6% before he’s done in 4 years?

  13. raj58045 on June 26th, 2009 at 12:49 pm

MN Rep. Collin Peterson is largely responsible for this passing. Up until a couple days ago, he had committed to voting against it, until they excluded farmers from some of the restrictions. According to the news report I heard, he took 44 votes with him to the dark side. Apparently, he is too ignorant to know how this bill will affect farmers input costs(fuel, fertilizer, machinery prices will still be affected). Anyone in Peterson’s district should make a note of this.

Will you people ever lose your child-like belief in the conservative unicorn whose policies create a magic Utopia of a zero-tax but highly prosperous society?

Do you realize how ridiculous you sound particularly after the complete disaster they caused?

    GROW THE FUCK UP

Our problem has not been too little government, but too much. The biggest difference between the Republicans when they had power and the Democrats now, is how fast the government grew. As the adage goes, “power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

On a different note, Utopia means “no place.” The author of the book Utopia, Sir Thomas More, wrote it as an allegory, signifying that there is no such thing as the ideal place. There will always be taxes, but hopefully they can be kept to a minimum. Maybe, just maybe the Fairtax will be enacted.

  19. Spartacus on June 26th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

The vote summary is available somewhere at the house.gov website. I’m not that familiar with the site to find and post the info quickly, especially on a Friday. They also list when your Reps are up for re election, again, I’m not that familiar with the site to post that info quickly.

My point being, if anyone has the time and ambition to find those 2 tidbits of information post it, maybe even forward it to Rob for front page posting if he wants to. These clowns need to know that their political careers have a shelf life and we know what it is!

  20. DINO on June 27th, 2009 at 10:41 am

Yeah, you know, when a president leaves office and hands off a Depression to the next guy, the economy “resets” back to surplus, prosperity and unemployment rolls back to zero. All the debt from the previous administration is magically paid off and the downward momentum of the economy is completely halted.

Even a mildly intelligent stem knows better than that.

  21. DINO on June 26th, 2009 at 1:27 pm

You stems do realize that the EPA has the mandate and power to regulate greehouse gases without this bill, right?

But go ahead and blow your wad on this so we can just roll right over you with national health care. That was probably the goal all along.

99% of you don’t even know what this legislation means. Your opposition is out of ignorance, partisanship and wanting to hand Obama a defeat.

100% of Democrats and Republicans don’t know what this legislation means Dino because they passed a bill they haven’t even finished writing yet. Opposition to this bill is not out of partisanship or ignorance, its out of disgust that Democrats could game the system so badly to pass an unfinished bill. It pure partisanship on your part that you ignore this fact to bleat on about “ignorance”, how can you fail to be ignorant of an unfinished bill?

  29. sayanything-4625 on June 26th, 2009 at 5:15 pm

Dino my boy, you are about to get your wish, and like most wishes, you should be careful what you wish for, you might get it. There is no cover for you now. If you really think that the average Joe is going to watch his power bill go up, his grocery bill go up and the cost of living go up with out blaming Zero then you are crazy. If this passes its all you. It will KILL manufacturing in the US. I work for a manufacturing company and I can assure you any cost that cap and trade imposes on us, we will pass on to the consumer. We have to because our margins are rather thin as it is and any price increases will be at your feet. If you think that is not going to laid at the feet of the Democrats your dumber than I thought. The funny thing is, I know your not dumb because I seen you actually debate. When you do you, you are actually a very good debater. Please, drop the stem talk. It makes you look like an idiot.
