Canadian Union Wants To Ban Jewish Professors From Campuses

Ban them if they don’t condemn Israel’s defense of itself against the attacks from Hamas.

The union representing university workers in Ontario (that would be Canada) has decided that it would be a good idea to ban Israeli professors. Yep. The Canadian Union of Public Employees has decided that it wants to take a stand against the evil Israelis who are attacking innocent Hamas victims. So their solution is to use the power of the union to ban Israeli professors from Ontario universities. The president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees of Ontario says, “In response to an appeal from the Palestinian Federation of Unions of University Professors and Employees, we are ready to say Israeli academics should not be on our campuses unless they explicitly condemn the university bombing and the assault on Gaza in general.” The bombing he is referring to is that of Islamic University in Gaza.

Another victory for that famous, much-touted liberal tolerance.
Seriously though, aren’t universities supposed to be institutions of free and diverse thought? What if some Jewish professors don’t happen to think Israel did anything wrong? What if some Jewish professors think (rightfully, in my opinion) that Israel was attacked by Hamas and is merely defending itself against a bigoted hate group that has vowed to wipe the Jewish state off the map?
Are they not at least entitled to their opinions?
Furthermore, where’s the demand for a ban on Muslim professors who don’t condemn Hamas for its attacks on Israel? At the very least they should be consistent, shouldn’t they?

Good point, E ’06. Even so, it’s pretty darned scary that people are taking the side of Hamas here–you have to overlook the fact that Hamas is deliberately putting women and children in the line of fire as a propaganda ploy. Even worse, the United Nations and the media are not calling them on it.

More or less, I would have to assume that a boycott of Israel would in fact include Israeli academics, and that our gracious host pretty much got the facts straight. For some reason, the brain surgeons at CUPE ignore 8000 (or whatever) rockets fired into homes in Israel, and then pretend that the provocation doesn’t matter when Israel responds.

The reporting for this incident needs to be corrected. Israel did not attack the UN School. Israel attacked a rocket launcher/mortar outside of the school. Every media report says Israel attacked the school, which is not true.

I also have to question why there were 350 Palestinian Civilians seeking refuge OUTSIDE the school. We all have seen the pictures of the UN school, and it is rather large. Capable of holding at least a couple thousand people. Why were they outside instead of inside.

If the civilians would have been in the school, there would have been no casualties, or minimal casualties most likely. What I suspect is that the civilians were either outside complicity as human shields, or may have been held under duress.

So CUPE’s resolution, if it passes, would have only an indirect effect on the university. I suppose, for instance, CUPE could picket an auditorium if an Israeli academic were to speak on campus, and such a threat might make professors in a department think twice about inviting an Israeli to speak. CUPE’s move is an ingenious and dangerous way of stifling free speech on Canadian campuses. The Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) should take a stance on this immediately.

Islam , what a wonderful Religion to get behind , one item in the Koran says to behead the infidels and another lets them off the hook if they pay a head tax , the whole religion is built around being a single religion around the world, no one is to be out of that religion or they will have to either pay with their life or with money , nice choice huh?. Compare that to a religion of Christianity and you see nothing in it that tells the people to kill and maim people outside of their religion ,only to dust your feet at their door and go else where to seek new members. Sure we should ban all religions except Islam it is so easy to see . we will have nothing but peace except when your wife ,sister daughter shows the skin on the face in public and then they are either stoned to death or punished in other evil ways .
