Canadian General: We’re Winning In Afghanistan

We’ve been hearing a lot about how well things are going in Iraq, now here’s some news about progress in Afghanistan:

Canada is winning the war in Afghanistan and is making significant progress in rebuilding that South Asian country, says the general who commands the Canadian Forces mission in Kandahar.

But Lt.-Gen. Michel Gauthier, who heads the Canadian Expeditionary Force Command in Ottawa, warns that because Afghan insurgents are losing ground, they likely will resort to increasing the number of roadside bombs and suicide attacks in an attempt to inflict more casualties on troops.

“From a military perspective in the south of Afghanistan, in Kandahar specifically, we are winning,” Lt.-Gen. Gauthier said in an interview with CanWest News Service. “We are winning where it matters most, where the people live. Where 90 per cent of the population is, we have a strong security influence in concert with our Afghan partners.”

Things are looking pretty bad for the terrorists all over, which is probably why bin Laden is calling on our allies to abandon the mission in Afghanistan.

Read an article a few days ago that said Taleban was in “control” of most of the country of Afghanistan’s provinces. Last 2 sentences clarified that by in “control” they meant that there were cells of 2-5 Taleban members somewhere in each province of Afghanistan. What a bunch of defeatist crap.

Canadian forces are doing the heavy lift work, with American forces serving in the tactical and fire support roles. The reverse of the situation in Iraq. And the Canucks are performing well above the level expected by pretty much everyone. Except the US Military. They knew what quality and caliber of soldiers Canucks are.

Hasn’t been that long at all since congressional Democrats and their “cut ‘n’ run” presidential candidates were saying the very same thing about Iraq.
