California Wants To Regulate The Color Of Your Car To Combat Global Warming
I’ve been saying for years now that global warming is less about saving the planet than it is an excuse to regulate every single aspect of your life. Case in point, California considering banning certain types of car colors. Because dark colors trap heat, and that might make you run your air conditioner more. And that, in turn, will cause you to burn more gas and emit more carbon.
I didn’t think anything could be more absurd than Obama regulating our thermostats, but California managed to pull it off.
In a move that will likely get California’s consumers in a huff, impending legislation may soon restrict the paint color options for Golden State residents looking for their next new vehicle. The specific colors that are currently on the chopping block are all dark hues, with the worst offender seemingly the most innocuous color you could think of: Black. What could California possibly have against these colors, you ask? Apparently, the California Air Resources Board figures that the climate control systems of dark colored cars need to work harder than their lighter siblings – especially after sitting in the sun for a few hours.
The question here isn’t whether or not darker color cars get hotter inside (they do), and what impact that has on fuel consumption (probably marginal), but rather how far we’re willing to let government go in regulating every aspect of our lives for our own good?
How can we continue to call ourselves a free country when even the color of our cars is subject to government oversight and approval?
Discussion question: When the Air Force transports the Presidential limo into California (yes, they airlift it to wherever the President is going), will Obama have to pay a fine for having a dark colored vehicle under this regulation? Or will the liberal/political elite be exempted?
