Byron Dorgan, Kent Conrad Vote Against Expanding Domestic Production Of Gasoline

North Dakota’s Senators spend a lot of time talking about high gas prices.  Especially Senator Dorgan.  They talk about what a terrible impact those high prices have on this country’s citizens.  Particularly North Dakotans who live in rural places which require lots of on-the-road time and have nothing in terms of public transportation.

So when an amendment came forward in the Senate to allow expanded domestic production of oil, something that would increase supply and decrease prices, you’d think these two public servants would jump at the opportunity, right?  Well such an opportunity presented itself today in the form of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s amendment to allow expanded domestic exploration for oil in places like the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge.  What did Senators Dorgan and Conrad do?

They voted against it.  Evidence of their “nay” votes will be here as soon as the Senate website is updated.

What’s astonishing is that Senator Dorgan has come out in favor of drilling for oil in the backyard of North Dakotans living around the Bakken formation, but not in favor of drilling for oil in a remote and little-visited bit of frozen tundra north of the arctic circle.

Why is one ok, but the other bad?  And why does Senator Dorgan think its ok to play politics with national energy policy?

This is typical of liberal left. They claim to care about the high gas prices that their constituents are paying but when it comes time to do something about the problem they are more concerned with getting the endoresement of the Siera Club.

This should be very telling to North Dakotans and Americans throughout the country.

North Dakota’s three stooges in congress are in the back pocket of the econuts.
A population that is unable to travel very far is easier to control, in their minds.

When it comes to demonrats like Dorgan, the only thing that matters to them is power.  Any support of voting they will ever provide is because of what it’ll do for them, not their constituents, just WIIFT.

A)Because that is what polititians do: Play politics.
B)National energy policy you say? Since when did drilling in ANWAR become national polivy? I thought the nation was divided on the issue.

Does the above come with proof, or is it just your oppinion.

ellinas on May 13, 2008 at 10:39 am

The proof is commen sense.  The democrats are constantly complaining about high gas prices but when they can vote to increase drilling which will lower gas prices their tag lines begin to come out.

example, Chuch Schumer saying, “We won’t get oil from there for 10 years.”

If Clinton wouldn’t have vetod drilling in ANWAR 10 years ago we would be getting oil from there right now. The democrats only like to complain.  Where is the democrat’s plan to lower gas prices that Pelosi talked about when she became speaker of the house.

If these two leftards actually had to compete for their seats and actually cared about the real people and not their extreme left wing agenda they would probably vote for some of these things but since they kowtow to their liberal base the people in the fly over country suffer from their views.

However since we can’t find a candidate to defeat them from the right we are stuck with these moron until they retire. I would love to see Conrad and Dorgan off defeated but there is no chance of seeing that in my life time.

Well, clearly Mr. Dorgan would like North Dakota to become part of OPEC, without having ANWR oil dilute the price.  C’mon, man.  It’s totally unfair that nobody’s making gas out of wheat.

ANWR is federal land, thus the question of whether or not to drill there is a matter of national policy.

Honestly, go back to school and work on your reading comprehension.

Since when did drilling in ANWAR become national polivy? [sic]

I believe it was first brought up after those evil meetings Bush and Cheney had with… “BIG OIL”..... about 8 years ago when they WARNED this would happen and outlined what was needed as two smart men with EXPERIENCE in the oil business would suggest.

The SAME group that voted no today was against our freedom then (which is what cheap energy is! - FREEDOM!!!) Think about this you libs, CAN you?

plus McCain… [shaking head]
