Byron Dorgan, Kent Conrad Vote Against Ending TARP
Which is odd, for Dorgan at least, given that he voted against the creation of TARP under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.
Was that vote cast while his mind was on re-election this year? And is he now voting his conscience given that he doesn’t have to run for re-election?
That would seem to be the case.
As far as Conrad is concerned, how can a self-described “deficit hawk” continue support for a program that has no purpose any more (given that the money is being repaid) and is now being used as little more than a slush fund for use by the Obama administration to engage in more nebulous “economic rescue” efforts?
You can see the votes for the amendment (introduced by Senator Thune) to terminate TARP here.
