Byron Dorgan Doesn’t Want A Tax On Cow Burps, Farts

Senator Byron Dorgan is doing the right thing and coming out against an attempt by the EPA to tax gaseous emissions from livestock.  Such an initiative would be a nightmare to regulate, and the impetus for it (combating global warming) is questionable at best.

You would think that we would want to settle the debate over whether or not global warming is being caused by human activity such as ranching and driving cars before we go creating massive new taxes that burden our food producers.  And what business does the EPA have taxing us anyway?

Anyway, what’s interesting about Dorgan’s opposition to taxing cow farts is that he’s a consistent proponent of limiting carbon emissions.  But according to the United Nations (for what it’s worth), cow emissions are more harmful to the environment than carbon emissions.

Which kind of makes Dorgan’s environmental stand a little…muddled, wouldn’t you say?

Really, it’s typical for Dorgan.  He’s a far-left liberal until such a time as he feels the need to pander to his red state constituency.  The only reason he gets away with this kind of nonsense is because the incurious state media lets him.
