Bush Was Right On Stem Cells

From the New York Times:

WASHINGTON, Nov. 20 — It has been more than six years since President Bush, in the first major televised address of his presidency, drew a stark moral line against the destruction of human embryos in medical research.

Since then, he has steadfastly maintained that scientists would come up with an alternative method of developing embryonic stem cells, one that did not involve killing embryos.

Critics were skeptical. But now that scientists in Japan and Wisconsin have apparently achieved what Mr. Bush envisioned, the White House is saying, “I told you so.”

Conservative Republican presidential hopefuls like former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts are breathing a sigh of relief. And opponents of embryonic stem cell research are congratulating themselves.

The discovery that skin cells can be reprogrammed to mimic embryonic stem cells is likely to transform the sticky political debate over the science, a debate that has pitted Mr. Bush against two-thirds of the American public including prominent Republicans like Nancy Reagan and has even helped decide some elections.

The findings have put people on both sides of the stem cell divide on nearly equal political footing. Each side can now say it has fruitful research to pursue.

My guess is that many on the left will continue to push for embryonic stem cell research, mostly out of political inertia.  When you’ve invested as much time and political capital into something as the pro-embryonic stem cell research people have you don’t let go easily.

What a bald-faced lie! The adult stem cell research as always been fruitful, that is why it has been pursued most vigorously. Embryonic stem cell research has yet to bear any fruit.

Whatever can get me a new pancreas faster is what I’ll push for.

Well, I’m sure that their is someone in this 300M+ nation that is a perfect match. It’ll be faster for you to find that person and murder them for their pancreas. And since your for “whatever can get [you] a new pancreas”, murder shouldn’t be out of the question.

Yeah, Bush was right on stem cell research… like he even has a clue as to what they are…

like he even has a clue as to what they are…

...which puts him light years ahead of imagine…

Those who think the party or the country, will be “taught a lesson” by handing the levers of power over to the liberals will learn a lesson, but it will be at the expense of our country and her liberties. And there are no guarantees that the party or the country will come out stronger, more conservative or better positioned to win elections against the incumbent liberals.
