Bush To Visit North Dakota

President Bush is set to visit North Dakota this week. Its big news to us, as he's only the 11th sitting President to ever visit our state.

As you might expect, our legislature will be on light-duty while the President is in-state.

KXMA - The Legislature probably won't hold floor sessions when President Bush comes to Fargo on Thursday.

Republican legislative leaders say most committees will still be meeting on Thursday.

Senate majority leader Bob Stenehjem says lawmakers will have to work a bit longer in the following days ... to make up for lost time.

House majority leader Rick Berg says it's an honor for the president to come to North Dakota, and some lawmakers want to go along.

It is an honor for the President to visit our state. Its an honor for any President to visit. One would hope that our state politicians would look past partisan bickering and recognize that honor and give him a warm welcome. But I guess that's too much to expect from our state Democrats.

The Legislature's Democrats aren't too interested in going. Senate minority leader Dave O'Connell says the Bush visit sounds like a political show. House leader Merle Boucher says he doesn't plan to change his schedule much.

Had Sen. Kerry been elected President I would certainly expect my state Republicans to show some respect for the commander-in-chief. What a bitter bunch of small-minded louts these guys are.

Sadly, our state Democrats seem to be serving as a representative microcosm for the national party.
