Bush Makes Another Friend
Vladimir Putin and George W. Bush have been holding talks in Camp David recently and it appears as if Junior has made a friend.
Though Putin and Bush still stand apart on some issues, it would appear as though they've reach some common ground on others. Bush sounds ready to relax U.S. opposition to Russia's activities in Chechnya while the Russians sound ready to get behind the U.S. in the war on terror. Access to Russia's oil resources has also been discussed. Such access would allow the U.S. to become less dependent on middle-eastern oil.
Putin is still adamant about his opposition to the war in Iraq and is not happy with the continued conflict there. He feels the UN should become more involved immediately. He has ruled out using Russian troops as peacekeepers but would be willing to send experts to assist in training and other areas.
Bush has been put down a lot because of his allegedly poor foreign policy but I'm not sure what proof there is of that. Bush does not pull any punches with his foreign policy which has often ruffled the feathers of foreign leaders, but when was the last time France or Germany ever missed an oppurtunity to aim barbs at the U.S.? It would also seem as though Bush has two very poweful allies in Tony Blair and Putin. Though there are still a lot of issues between the U.S. and Russia, Putin and Bush have developed a warm persona relationship.
This is because Blair, Bush and Putin are all strong leaders and they recognize that quality in each other. We need to have faith in our President, he's doing a good job.
More people would realize this if the media would ever give him a break.
