Bush Calls For More Drilling, More Refineries, Nuclear Energy, And New Ideas: Dems Will Yawn

I know. It’s more of the same and it will get the same response from Democrats:

‘’I’ll tell you this: That if Congress is truly interested in solving the problem, they can send the right signal by saying we’re going to explore for oil and gas in the U.S. territories, starting with ANWR,’’ Bush said during a wide-ranging White House news conference. ``Somehow if you mention ANWR, it means you don’t care about the environment. Well, I’m hoping now, people, when they say ANWR, it means you don’t care about the gasoline prices people are paying.’’

We sit on our hands while China begins drilling near Cuba. We don’t build any new refineries, making us very vulnerable if something happens to the ones we have. We can’t build any new nuclear plants because…..well, I suspect the conversation about all of the above would go something like this:

Right: Let’s drill for new oil and gas.

Left: Are you kidding? Not in ANWR. No sir, no way. Caribou. Florida? Nope. Reefs. Fish, that sort of thing. Out of the question. California? Not in our back yard, pal.

Right: Okay, how about nuclear energy…..

Left: (Unintelligible howls of indignation)

Right: Okay, offshore wind farms…..

Left: Birds. They kill birds. Plus they’re noisy and block the view. Can’t do that.

Right: Well, give me a suggestion? What do you think we should do?

Left: Blame Bush. Works for us. And find some answers for our energy needs while you’re at it.

Yeesh.

The Dems don’t want to solve the problem. They just want to campaign on it.

Kind of like the Arab world and the ‘palestinian problem’.

If the problem gets solved, you no longer have it as club to beat your opponent with.

I have the solution to high gas prices.

You and I all pay $2 a gallon for gas.  Liberals and whacko environmentalist pay $20 a gallon.  WE then forces them to take their privte jets to Anwar at their own expense so they can watch the caribou mate in peaceful tranquility.

The USA has more oil in Alaska, Montana and offshore than all of the Middle East combined - and yet, we drill for NONE of it and play patty cake with terrorists for their oil.

Exactly how much of the electorate is made up of these whacked out environmentalists, 1%?  How the hell did such a tiny group get so much power?

For over a decade the Republicans held power in Congress and yet, still we do not drill.

I call this the “pussification” of the right.  Sad.

Bill Mitchell on April 30, 2008 at 05:10 am

Further development of nuclear energy could make us energy independent in a decade. We spend $12 billion per month on the Iraq war. If we set aside $144 billion dollars we could build 36 nuclear power plants of 1000MW generation each. Then the development of electric vehicles could follow. After that we could shift the priority of oil towards diesel fuel to use by the trucking industry. And if we converted all that coal in the west to coal-oil at a cost of $50 per barrel we could foreign oil free.

The solution is there. The problem is congress and the enviroMENTALS. Nuclear power is green power.
Containment of spent fuel is not a big issue.
A secure locaton can be built above ground and
maintained just as easily as any other government facility.

Why would the filthy gop go and ruin a campaign slogan by actually doing something? Much like SS.

Look what they actually did do to Medicaid/Prescription drugs when they were in charge.

Really, this should not be a surprise to anyone.

Wither thou goest, O once proud gop?

For over a decade the Republicans held power in Congress and yet, still we do not drill.

And when the Democrats were in charge of Congress? More of the same. Much more of the same.

The difference, bob, is that partisan hacks like yourself only complain when the other party is at fault. Bill, you may have noticed, is a conservative.

Those who think the party or the country, will be “taught a lesson” by handing the levers of power over to the liberals will learn a lesson, but it will be at the expense of our country and her liberties. And there are no guarantees that the party or the country will come out stronger, more conservative or better positioned to win elections against the incumbent liberals.

proof you are right. The dems don’t want drilling so yes, you got more of the same.

You may have noticed the conservative Bill is calling this current gop pussies.
What would you call them?

It warms my heart when you call me a partisan hack. I know that I am doing my job.

Thank you for feeding the troll.

What’s YOUR proposal with regard to energy and energy policy?

Unfortunately, when in “control” of congress, the RHINOs in the Senate had the swing vote, preferring the junk science of the liberals over common sense. Have some forgotten the votes over ANWR that passed the House, but not the Senate?  That phony leftist portrayal of the drillable portion of ANWR (an arctic desert which only lichens and moss inhabit) as a caribou paradise didn’t help either. The herds of caribou have thrived near the man-made (dare I say man-made) Alaskan pipeline.  They like the warmth.  Puts a monkey wrench in the “man as the enemy of the environment” mantra, doesn’t it?

Mickey - availability of electricity is not a deterrent to developing electric cars.

Increased power production would have little or no change on the use of electricity for transportation.

Any why is everyone so opposed to coal?  (I’m talking about those who haven’t bought into the cult of Global Warming.)

Higher CAFÉ standards
Tax breaks for changing to energy efficient machinery at every level.
Mandate to a level of alternative energy production/use - Hydro/solar/wind et al.
Huge investments into alternative energy research and production.
End ethanol subsidies
End the occupation of Iraq
Kiss the Brazilians ass for the short term
Uniformity in gasoline production
More refineries for the short term
Finalize and defend a Palestinian state

rbb’s ideas in real terms

Wave the white flag in Iraq just when we are making amazing progress.
Turn our backs on a strong ally in Israel.
Tax energy consumption to drag our economy into a Jimmy Carter recession.
Mandate use of energy sources that are expensive and less efficient that methods already used.

rbb, why didn’t you say we should drill for our own oil?  Looks like you want “more of the same”.

And how would establishing a Palestinian state bring us more energy?

A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.

Dear Reality based:  “But we were elated to notice your media was definitely helping us. They were causing more disruption in America than we could in the battlefields. We were ready to surrender. YOU HAD WON!” General Giap’s (North Vietnamese) memoirs.

Now that the war is being won in Iraq, it’s time for the Dhimmicrats to declare defeat, just like “Not one more dime for Vietnam.” Teddy Kennedy - Congressional record.

In 1400 years of Islamic Jihadism, over 200 million unbelievers (infidels) have been killed by the “Religion of Peace,” far more than the over 100
million killed by communism, and the 1 million in the Inquisition, the crusades (combatants and non-combatants on both sides), and witch hunts combined.
The Jihad continues - the Inquisition, crusades, and witch hunts ceased centuries ago.

“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Santayana

God bless President Bush and our troops for keeping the U.S. safe from Jihad murders’ attack since 9/11.

We’ve had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11th.

patriot, the Repubs never had a clear majority in the senate especially when you consider that the RINOs usually voted with the Dems.

President Bush was right in his assessment at the time.  However Jihad was declared by Saddam Hussein and other muslims on the United States in 1990, well prior to 9/11/2001 and the invasion of Kuwait resulting in the 1st Gulf War in 1991.

How about a revamping of Gertrude Stein ("A rose is a rose is a rose.") A Jihad is a Jihad is a Jihad.

Further, newly translated captured documents (2008) from Iraq have revealed that Saddam supported throughout the ‘90s bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri (the Godfather of Al Queda).

I love coal. I love nuclear. Hell, I love all forms of energy production. I’m just saying that Nuclear is clean and electric cars, powered by the energy generated by nuclear, would save us billions of dollars wasted on oil. Plus making gasoline from our own coal via coal/oil conversion would lower a barrel of coal oil to $55 per barrel.

Nuclear is the way to go. The ripple effect is all positive.

Mickey on April 30, 2008 at 11:28 am

Coal liquefaction is the chemical process of adding hydrogen to coal under high temperature and pressure to liquefy coal into crude oil.

With the coal liquefaction technology, producing 1 ton of oil is 30 per cent cheaper than purchasing oil from the overseas market. A coal liquefaction manufacturer can recoup their total investment within 13 years.

Given the fact that the total reserves of coal in the USA far exceed those of oil, it is desirable to implement the technology to stretch the oil supply
