Bush Blasts Democrats For Axing Colombian Trade Deal

I guess nixing free trade deals with our friendly allies is how Democrats are going to raise America’s standing in the world.  You know, the standing the Democrats accuse Bush of tarnishing so often.

This is a statement from the President received via email:

Today’s unprecedented and unfortunate action by the House of Representatives – led by Speaker Pelosi – to change the rules governing legislation to implement our trade agreement with Colombia is damaging to our economy, our national security, and our relations with an important ally.  It also undermines the trust required for any Administration to negotiate trade agreements in the future.

By lowering tariffs for products made in America and sold in Colombia, this trade agreement would level the playing field for American workers and provide a boost for our economy at a vital time.  Rather than supporting the opening of markets for our farmers and manufacturers, Democratic congressional leaders instead listened to narrow special interests and followed an isolationist path.

Today’s action by the House of Representatives also sends a damaging message to the world that Congress cannot be counted on to keep its promises.  Colombia is one of our strongest allies in the Western Hemisphere.  Colombia’s leaders are showing courage in improving the safety of their citizens while battling narco-terrorists that receive support from anti-American forces outside Colombia.  The message Democrats sent today is that no matter how steadfastly you stand with us, we will turn our backs on you when it is politically convenient.

Sadly enough, this is the same thing Democrats are doing to Iraqis.

Free trade means more access to the Colombian Gold, which means the price they pay per lid is going up, you gotta look at the big picture, dude....

...the House of Representatives – led by Speaker Pelosi – to change the rules governing legislation to implement our trade agreement with Colombia

The rules President Bush is referring to , requires the House to vote on legislation sent to them from the White House within 90 days.
Nancy Pelosi doesn’t want to make either Barack or Hillary go on the record for or against free trade before the election, for fear of offending any part of their fractured coalition of voters.

Lipstick on a pig? Nancy would rather the voters buy their pig in a poke this November, lipstick and all!

Those who think the party or the country, will be “taught a lesson” by handing the levers of power over to the liberals will learn a lesson, but it will be at the expense of our country and her liberties. And there are no guarantees that the party or the country will come out stronger, more conservative or better positioned to win elections against the incumbent liberals.

The new govt of Colombia is very friendly to US-style free enterprise, so of course the Dems don’t want any part of that.

Can someone please tell me how this is legal?  Honestly, I don’t have a clue on this one, but why does someone (Der Fuhrer Pelosi in this case) have the ability to change rules mid-game?  I am to the point where I want to divide the country in half and tell the idiot liberals to move to their part.  I wonder who would be the first to be bankrupt...taken over by a foreign government...starving?  I am more convinced each day that calling someone a liberal is like calling them stupid...yet, I am eerily (sp?) fine with that.

god, this is so shocking!  when the GOP controlled congress, they made up or changed the rules all the fucking time.  now that the democrats do the same thing, you’ve found fucking religion?  ha!

It’s a stupid procedural technicality. It’s really sad because on the one hand (if media gives this enough coverage) the Dems have screwed themselves politically, but on the other hand, they have screwed our economy at a bad time to be playing games.

Of course, they may just be banking on the fact that people don’t read the news and will likely blame the administration for the ensuing economic fallout. I’m hoping that, at least, since the generally liberal Wash Post excorciated the Dems for this, so will the rest of the media.

I mean seriously. Are there enough Americans left that are stupid enough to still believe that isolationism is the way to go? Wake up to the… umm… 19th century.

"The message Democrats sent today is that no matter how steadfastly you stand with us, we will turn our backs on you when it is politically convenient.”

This is what Democrats always do. Tell whatever lies needed to get people to trust them, then stab them in the back. This is why America’s reputation among our allies and enemies is so shitty. Ask anyone who has ever allied with us, they get stabbed in the back. And it is Democrats and “progressives” who do it every time.

And note! Our newest suckpuppet is all indignant about anyone pointing out that its Party routinely changes rules and procedural code. By attempting to say “everyone else” does it. Hey, suckpuppet? How about you give us a documented list of the incidents in which Republicans did this? I can think of a couple, how about you enlighten us, suckpuppet.

Another reason Hill wants to hide from this vote:

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Hillary Clinton used her trademark laugh Thursday to deflect a question about the $800,000 her husband earned in 2005 giving speeches for a Bogota-based group that supports the Colombia free trade agreement — the same trade deal she currently opposes.

Asked by CNN if those earnings represented a conflict of interest given that she has dipped into her family’s pocketbook to pay campaign bills, Clinton threw up her hands and laughed loudly for several seconds.

So she votes for it...she pisses off her base. She votes against it...she pisses off Bill’s gravy train. Hillary does not want to go on the record before November.
Cackle once more for us, Hill! It shows how sincere you are!
