Bush Approval Numbers On The Rise Again

Monday October 31, 2005–Forty-five percent (45%) of American adults now approve of the way George W. Bush is performing his role as President. That’s up five points since Harriet Miers withdrew from consideration as a Supreme Court nominee. It’s also the President’s highest level of Approval in two weeks.
Overall, 54% of Americans Disapprove of the President’s performance including 39% strongly disapprove.
The President’s Approval rating is at 78% among Republicans, 18% among Democrats, and 35% among those not affiliated with either major party.
Before the past two weeks, the President’s Approval Rating had never dipped below 43% in a Rasmussen Reports poll. It fell to 42% for the first time a week ago Friday, to 41% for the first time this past Wednesday, and to 40% for the first time on Friday.

As always I’m hesitant to put much faith in approval polls so take this one with a grain of salt, but there are two things things here worth mentioning:

  1. The President’s approval numbers are going back up after the Miers nomination. That certainly doesn’t play into the “President Bush’s administration is crumbling” story the media has been trying to push since last week.
  2. Now that the President’s numbers are on the way back up will the media cover it endlessly like they did when they were going down? Somehow, I doubt it.

By ’06 elections, we will have success in Iraq, the economy will be even better than it is now, and all the pathetic attempts at exaggeration and guilt by association will have failed. Don’t forget: Of all the things the Dems have tried, the only thing that has come close to succeeding is the technical charges against Scooter Libby, a virtual unknown. In football terms, we have been making touchdowns while the Dems have gotten one first down, and even that was by penalty.
    Good luck!

If Bush’s numbers go up after the Miers nomination it’s because he then dumped her.

    Whoops! Wrong thread.

If he pulls some things off his numbers are going to go way back up, proving the point that he was never unpopular because Americans were siding with Democrats.

Yeah, but it won’t really matter if he can’t pull something off; people who may support the administration may be no-shows next year, and with such an evenly divided electorate, that could be the difference.

It’s definitely in regard to 06; remember, guilt by association can be a bitch. And that could set the stage for 08.

Please send me some links of the liberal media spinning the news to hurt the president. I have never seen it and I watch a lot of news. How do reasonably smart people confuse journalism with liberalism so frequently?

If we had equal coverage in the MSM, equal polling of Republicans and Democrats and equal polling of both red and blue areas of the country, the Prez’s numbers would probably be 10-15% higher than they show now.

As a pretty conservative guy, I can’t see any connection here. I can’t imagine a teenage girl deciding she will have sex now that she doesn’t have to worry about cervical cancer. They really don’t even think they will get pregnant! The people who oppose this vaccine aren’t conservatives, they’re just fools.

    Huh?

Nobody liked the Miers nomination. It negatively impacted his poll numbers. She walked the plank, it relieved some of the pressure.

You could have a point, MI, but I don’t see the Democrats making any real gains in ’06. The economy is going well, Iraq is going well. Unless there are some local dynamics that bush-whack a congressman I really don’t see many of them as being at-risk.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

    Oh, ok. Gotcha now.

I agree. I think Bush is also trying to relieve some pressure in other areas too. That’s why he’s been talking tough on immigration issues and pork spending.

We’ll see what comes of it. If he pulls some things off his numbers are going to go way back up, proving the point that he was never unpopular because Americans were siding with Democrats.

This is a good place to start, though I’m not sure you’ll believe it even when you see it. Perhaps it’s cynical of me to say so, but you’ve probably made up your mind already.

If Bush’s numbers go up after the Miers nomination it’s because he then dumped her.

Well, it’s kind of a moot point. Bush won’t be running in 2008. Unless you’re talking about the 2006 congressional races, that will definetly hinge on what Republicans get done in Congress, but the dynamics are a little different.
