Brokeback Oscar
Hollywood has always had its share of gay personalities, but they all were rather quiet about their sexual preference. That has all change as there has been a grand coming out, as it were, of gay pride in recent movies.
Ann Coulter in her latest column expects gayness will be the principle theme in this years Oscar awards as she predicts the following awards.
Best picture – Brokeback Mountain
Hollywood can never do enough for the gays. Gays in the military, gays in the Texas Rangers, gays on the range. It’s like a brokeback record! As Pat Buchanan said, homosexuality has gone from “the love that dare not speak its name” to “the love that won’t shut up.”
Best director – Ang Lee, director of “Brokeback Mountain”
This is gays directed by an Asian, which should satisfy the gaysians.
Best actor in a leading role – Philip Seymour Hoffman, “Capote”
The awards committee can’t give everything to “Brokeback Mountain,” and at least Truman Capote was gay (though not a cowboy).
Best actress in a leading role – Felicity Huffman, “Transamerica”
Tags: EntertainmentFelicity Huffman plays a pre-op transsexual in “Transamerica.” That strikes a chord in Hollywood. It’s not exactly gay, but close enough!
Considering the amount of attention you give her, claiming that "I am no fan of Ann Coulter" represents an almost Bush-like level of dishonesty.
Anyone with half a brain can see the antigay subtext in Ms. Coulter’s "writing," and in your slavish regurgitation of same. Don’t pretend you don’t see it.
Finally—Ms. Huffman doesn’t stand a prayer of getting the award, altho’ she deserves it. Her performance is nothing short of remarkable. Her character spends a lot of time and energy trying to "act femaile." When she’s stressed, male mannerisms start to creep back in.
And whoever designed her prostetic deserves an Oscar as well.

Her ignorance is really showing on this one. Not stupidity; she admitted she hadn’t seen any of the films (which makes her article even more pointless–we’re taking film advice from a ‘lawyer’ with no background in film, who’s judging films she hasn’t even seen.)
It reminds me of a segment on "Scarborough Country," where she and Al Franken were debating "The Passion of the Christ" and "Fahrenheit 9/11," despite the fact that Coulter hadn’t seen "Fahrenheit" and Franken hadn’t seen "The Passion." Ah, good times.
So which movies/actors should win the Oscars? Nominated or not.

Fargo (about 50 miles away from me) has an "art-house" theater. (http://www.fargotheatre.org/) that plays a lot of independent films. It’s really been a godsend for me.
For the life of me I have no idea how they stay in business; I’ve been there about twenty times, and the biggest crowd I’ve seen was like 9–half the time my party was the only audience.

The gay community and its advocates leave themselves open to comment and sometimes ridicule by members of society by trying to make us accept abberant behavior as the norm.
Have you ever been to a "gay pride" parade in San Francisco, these jerkoffs do things in public that a couple of dogs would be ashamed to do?
Have you ever sat through a school board meeting and hear the arguments for teaching "Heather has two Moms" or "alternate lifestyles" to grammer school kids?
Have you ever had to take your boy or girl out of the scouts because you were not sure of the "blood sugar level" of the troop leaders and you better not question it?
It does not make normal people into homophobics to say at some point, enough is enough. Just go use your mis-directed affection and body parts any way you want to. It’s just that my kids and I don’t really need to know the details.
What’s strangest about this is that just last year the Best Picture went to one of the most conservative movies of the decade…which Coulter conveniently fails to point out.
Paradise Now should win Best Picture (it’s nominated for best foreign film). I would have liked Gus Van Sant’s Last Days to receive some recognition, but Hollywood hates subversive films made outside the system. Spielberg’s War of the Worlds should win an award for the worst film of all time.

Yeah, you’re a great candidate. But at least you’re now admitting that you deleted the posts to get them out of the public eye, even if you’re doing so tacitly.
Don: I didn’t post this. I don’t read Ann Coulter and have only mentioned her when she’s been in the news in general.
I don’t really pay attention to this sort of thing, but I’d like to see Walk The Line get some recognition. It didn’t have a political agenda and didn’t provide any commentary on society. It was just a very even-handed and well-done depiction of a profoundly American icon.
I enjoyed it a great deal (just bought the DVD last night and watched it again). Is it even up for anything though?
I also enjoyed Cinderella Man, Not sure if that’s up for anything either, though.
Seems like I haven’t watched as many movies this year as I usually do…

I am no fan of Ann Coulter, but pointing out what seems to be a Hollywood obsession with homosexuality right now is hardly "gay baiting."
Well, it is a pretty wonderful medium. I can shop for books and movies, download television shows and music, debate politics with people from all over the world, read writing from all sorts of amateur autors and columnists and play all sorts of games.
We have an independent theater here, but they don’t play movies like this. Mostly they show flicks that have just gone out of the big theaters at a discount.
I wish we could get more independent films up here. Rumor is that iTunes is going to start playing movies. Hopefully some of these titles will be available through there.
Doc, my dad and I used to listen to re-broadcasts of The Shadow in Alaska. Some AM station up there used to play them.

We have plenty to choose from though. Books. Hundres of television channels (though I don’t watch ‘em). As you know, blogging is my hobby. But i can also download shows, music and movies from the internet. There’s plenty to do.

I just happened to be watching when you posted.
I’m actually have a bit of a problem monitoring comments of late. I have the system here set up to send me a notification email each time someone posts a comment. In the past that has worked well to allow me to monitor discussions and fix problems when they arise. But as more and more people comment, I’m having problems. Yesterday there were 350 comments posted from about 9:00am (where I’m at) until midnight last night. And I probably deleted about 150 from overnight. And that doesn’t count email I get for spam comments that need to be junked, trackbacks and just emails from readers giving input or pointing me toward stories (not to mention the barrage of emails I’m getting from liberal/progressive groups thanks to some anonymous reader who keeps signing me up for them).
It is getting to be a bit overwhelming. I mean, I do have a day job.
A big problem is with me. I tend to get sucked into reading every comment. Given the in-depth and lengthy discussions that take place here that takes up a lot of time. I’m considering shutting off system notifications altogether, but I’m afraid I’ll miss important things (like mistakes that need to be fixed or commenters addressing me specifically).
Oh well. I’ll quit whining now. Probably more than you wanted to know about blog maintenance.
But hey! Maybe I could delete this post and then pretend like it never existed!
