Bright Spot For Republicans: Louisiana Voters Oust Criminals

Huzzah:

NEW ORLEANS – In a year when national Republican fortunes took a turn for the worse, Louisiana delivered the GOP two seats in Congress in elections delayed by Hurricane Gustav.
Indicted Democratic U.S. Rep. William Jefferson was ousted Saturday from his New Orleans area district, while Republicans narrowly held on to the seat vacated by a retiring incumbent.
The wins followed Republicans’ reconquest of another House seat earlier this fall that had been lost to Democrats.
In the 2nd Congressional District, which includes most of New Orleans, Republican attorney Anh “Joseph” Cao won 50 percent of the vote to Jefferson’s 47 percent and will become the first Vietnamese-American in Congress. His only previous political experience was an unsuccessful 2007 bid for a seat in the state legislature.
In the 4th Congressional District in western Louisiana, Republican John Fleming squeaked past Democrat Paul Carmouche in the race to replace retiring 10-term Rep. Jim McCrery, R-La. Only a few hundred votes separated the two.

A bit of silver lining in a year of dark clouds for Republicans.

The people of Louisiana didn’t re-elect Nagin. The people of one city, New Orleans did.

    They’re regretting it, too.

Too bad Louisiana’s ignorant voters voted in the same mayor and others that caused Katrina.
Our country still showed it’s ignorance by voting for Obama.

Chilling story, di. Happens way too often. Ganging up on a person. I am surprised they didn’t sue the one guy who fought back.

I have been to NO many, many times on business, it is a rough town. My hubby’s niece was running one of the family businesses down there when Katrina hit. She was trying to leave town, and these guys were trying to hijack her car. They just ganged up around the car, while she was at a red light, and started pulling her out of the half open window. they might have had better luck, but Heather, bless her heart, is not a slim figure girl. Luckily the cops came up, shockingly they were in the right place at the right time. Doesn’t happen much in that town! My ex got jumped one year when he was down there for Mardi Gras. 3 big black gentlemen decided they didn’t like the fact he was wearing a cowboy hat and boots, so they started hollering stuff at him. He was drunk and stupid, as usual, and mouthed off back to them. It turned really ugly. They started beating the crud out of him, but he got his SWAT knife out of his boot, and then started stabbing at them. He slit one guy from hip to hip and another he stabbed his eye out. The 3rd one bolted. The guys he was with found the ex in a gutter the next day. He was so beaten and bloody they thought he was dead, no such luck, but he flew out on the first flight out. Never did know what happened to the other guys.

The New York Times blamed whitey for this.

    Quote:
In heavily white precincts, turnout was about 26 percent, while it was only about 12 percent in the heavily black precincts, said Greg Rigamer, a New Orleans demographer and analyst.

The exact percentage of blacks here, like the population itself, is unknown after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, but is thought to be 55 percent to 60 percent, down from around 70 percent before the storm. The City Council has turned majority-white after years of being led by blacks.

“It’s clearly shifted,” Mr. Rigamer said of the population. “You have fewer African-Americans in the city than previously.”

Frankly, this is a huge step here in Louisiana. People are truly getting tired of elected crooks.

Jindal has brought a fresh breeze to this state.

  • NoJelly

Yeah, it’s good to cull the herd of crooks, but the (R) replacing them has little meaning, politically speaking. We still have that elephant stomping around the room…
There are close to 533 others I’d to see investigated and removed accordingly. The Dems develop ethics, the GOP develop conservative values, the People actually pay attention to who they’re electing to office and get off the pie-in-the-sky train, now there would be improvement…

I certainly hope so, di. Had the chance to go to NO in 1970. Too much crime, too risky.

  • di butler

Nagin will be gone next year, so maybe things will start to get better down there. That town is a crap hole.

  • Rusty

I hope he gets to share a cell with OJ.

    Sigh…I know, I know.

But sometimes we’ve got to take our victories where we can get them.
