Breaking News, North Dakota Style

Seen in the “breaking news” section of the Grand Forks Herald website:

But you can’t say that the folks at the Herald don’t know their readership:

There’s a war in Iraq.  There was just a monumental political shift in Congress.  But the most read story on North Dakota’s second largest newspaper’s website?

Car hits cow

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

You can read the whole story (all two paragraphs of it) here.  I really shouldn’t be making fun, though.  There are some advantages to living in a place where a car hitting a cow is major news.  That headline could read “ten people murdered in Fargo” or “crime rate at all-time high.” The fact that it’s “car hits cow” is… comforting in a strange sort of way.

We’re all feeling pretty sad about Bessie.  She was a fine mother and a good milker.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

TW ....  From the article ...

… however his car was totaled. The condition of the cow was not reported.

Do you KNOW the cow died?  I’d like to send a card ...

The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.

This is a good thing.  See, just about everyone who clicked through to that article was lookng to see if a) they knew the bloke who hit the cow, or b) they knew the bloke who owned the cow.

Chances are, half of em knew one of the other.  That other crap they get on the radio or CNN all day long, ad nauseum.  It ain’t why they read a local rag…

Excellent example of why you screw
with agriculture subsidies
at your peril.

That must have been one big cow.  I used to own a 68 Bonneville, and I can’t imagine that it would be totaled unless it hit a Mack Truck.

I wonder, do you know if this cow was a cheese producer?  There are a few cows that stray towards California as winter approaches.  At least that’s what the California Cheese Board tells us in their commercials.

As to whether you should laugh or cry......well I guess that depends on whether the cow died or not.

Here’s another cow story:
http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_4492608
This one wonders who gets the ticket, the herd’s owners, or the six drivers who ran one cow over six times.

This was across the river in Minnesota so I don’t know.

However if it happened in ND and many other states, the cow has the right of way.

I think I know what happened.

Hillary Clinton and her driver were cruising along a country road one evening when an ancient cow loomed in front of the car. The driver tried to avoid it but couldn’t - the aged bovine was struck and killed.
Hillary told her driver to go up to the farmhouse and explain to the owners what had happened. She stayed in the car making phone calls to lobbyists.

About an hour later the driver staggered back to the car with his clothes in disarray. He was holding a half-empty bottle of expensive wine in one hand, a rare, huge Cuban cigar in the other, and was smiling happily, smeared with lipstick.

“What happened to you,” asked Hillary?

“Well,” the driver replied, “the farmer gave me the cigar, his wife gave me the wine, and their beautiful twin daughters made mad passionate love to me.”!

“My God, what did you tell them?” asked Hillary.

The driver replied, “I just stepped inside the door and said, I’m Hillary Clinton’s driver and I’ve just killed the old cow. The rest happened so fast I couldn’t stop it!”

People care more about their animals than the war in Iraq.
North Dakotans do have their priorities right.

A war in Iraq, a monumental shift in Congress (and a lesser shift in the ND Legislature, gilbyguy) and lookit all the comments about a dead cow story!

...a monumental shift in Congress…

The reality: A smaller majority than the Republicans had before the election.  More leftie lies.

Will America hold to the principles of capitalism and free enterprise or will it embrace elements of socialism, Marxism and communism? Those are our choices.
Voting for conservative Republicans is the choice for free enterprise, personal, economic, religious and political freedom; any other choice supports socialism, Marxism and communism.
Throw out the Dems and the RINOs; save America

What makes it monumental is the fact that the electorate threw the crooks and liers out.
My my Robert still in denial.

The left side of the house is chock full of crooks and liars.

Wistler your statement is true. But it applies to both sides. IMO every tim a politician opens his/her mouth they are lying.

ellinas on November 12, 2006 at 01:59 pm

ellinas: It remains to be seen if the electorate will throw out all the crooks and liars.  After all, they didn’t throw out Clinton, who was a worse crook and liar than anyone today.  You give a pass to any Dems for doing the same and more as Republicans do, and blame only the Republicans, while turning a blind eye to the Dem culture of corruption.

Robert108 I don’t give a pass to any politician.
After all I did say that any time a politician opens his/her mouth they are lying. Man o man you like to argue everything for the sake of argument. F**k them all, those lying bastards. Before election they say one thing and after election they do something else. Example: The people want our border secured and all they give us is lip service.

Agreed. The political class produces only expenses to the rest of us.
