Breaking: Law Enforcement Sources Confirm They’re Looking For Missing Dickinson State Employee UPDATE: LaPlante Found Dead
2:57pm
Law enforcement sources in Dickinson have confirmed rumors that they are looking for a missing employee from Dickinson State University. Law enforcement won’t confirm the identity of the person they’re looking for, but a source at DSU says it is Dr. Doug LaPlante.
LaPlante is listed on the DSU website as the Dean of the College Of Education, Business and Applied Sciences.
LaPlante was involved in DSU’s aborted effort to host a Confucius Institute which would have brought foreign students to the university for study.
Update: Law enforcement officials just confirmed that LaPlante has been found dead.
The Dickinson State is on lock down according to the Dickinson Press, which is reporting that “lives are in danger.”
Update: According to the Dickinson PD, Mr. LaPlante was found dead around 1:30pm this afternoon. He was reported missing by a faculty member who was concerned when he didn’t show up for a meeting. Law enforcement searched his home and found that LaPlante and a high-caliber rifle were missing. Law enforcement believed he was armed and on foot, so ordered DSU locked down.
He was found dead, having succumbed to a single gun shot wound. DSU is no longer on lock down.
