Bras = Headscarves

Leave it to a whacked-out liberal feminist to play apologist for Speaker Pelosi’s dhimmitude in Damascus by comparing Islam’s oppressive practice of forcing women to wear head scarves and burkas to American women wearing bras.

Now, I’ve never worn a bra, but I have been told by women who do that they’re worn for comfort.  Apparently having your breasts bounce all over the place while you move around all day isn’t all that fun.  Thus the bra.

It takes a special kind of idiot to think that underwear worn for comfort is in any way comparable to head scarves worn to appease a backward religion’s overly zealous views on female modesty.  And it takes an unprincipled sort of partisan twit to claim to be a feminist and then turn around and defend someone who caters to the offensive traditions held by a culture that oppresses women.  I mean, I’m no feminist, but I expect those who are to at least be consistent.

If women like Amanda Marcotte want to walk around all day with the jublees bouncing about because they think bras are oppressive I don’t really have a problem with it.  I’ve always thought of it as a personal decision.  But they shouldn’t pretend like it’s ok for someone like Nancy Pelosi to wear a head scarf to placate radical Muslims just because some women in this country make the personal decision to wear a certain type of undergarment.

Anyway, just to lighten the mood a bit, here’s some video of some female jello-wrestling action:

Something liberal feminists like Amanda Marcotte would totally be down with were their idol Nancy Pelosi to express approval as well.

Comments

There are enough photos of Amanda Marcotte, and her disreputable looking cat, floating about the internet to make it quite apparent that it wouldn’t make the slightest difference to anyone whether she wears a bra or not.

As for Speaker Pelosi, if SHE finds wearing a bra too restrictive and oppressive, perhaps she ought not to have had that boob job in the first place.

Yep. That’s what a bra is for. It’s neither oppressive nor mandatory in public.

Few points:

One, she compared headscarfs to PUSH-UP bras, an important distinction.  All of your female friends probably wear more comfortable bras.

Two, she did say there was a difference between legally enforced and socially enforced.

Three, it is normally considered to be polite to do things that you would normally not do when in foreign cultures.  I don’t jump up and down during a church services, out of respect for the culture, and I’m sure there are plenty of things that you do to show politeness to a host that you would not otherwise do.

Four, Pelosi did not get a boob job.

Five, “personal choice” is misleading.  It is no more a “personal choice” for a woman to wear a bra than it is for a man to wear a suit at work.  It is considered necessary attire for women in almost any setting.  Why don’t you actually try reading the post?

Finally, the jello wrestling is sexist, and that would not be defended by almost any feminist.

Antigone on April 6, 2007 at 06:23 pm

Quick! Everyone give the feminists whatever they want! Lets let all the fringe kook minorities dictate the exigencies of our social protocol. A little something called ‘Freedom to Exit’ comes to mind… i.e. If you ain’t pleased don’t wait around for a veto! Perhaps you walk around Am*dam with the cold breezes wafting of your nips. Jello wrestling is not sexist BTW. Its sexy. And tasty!

Hmmm! Maybe next time she could compare hunger in Dafur to not finding her favorite flavor of Häagen-Dazs...that way she might find a way to make herself less relevent!

Under all that Mohammedan modesty, an Islamic woman is made of the same stuff as every other woman. Moslem men are titillated by peek-a-burqa like Victorian men were aroused by an uncovered ankle. Kind of kinky, but its a free country, no? Oops! Sorry I asked.

ptg on April 6, 2007 at 07:23 pm

its a free country, no?

Yes! And folks like Amanda Marcotte would do well to note (and careful not to imply) that here we do not slash or beat women who do not wear push-up bras in public!

Antigone (who has the temerity to call herself a “goddess"):

One, she compared headscarfs to PUSH-UP bras, an important distinction.  All of your female friends probably wear more comfortable bras.

Well, I can’t comment on the comfort level of the various models of bras, but I’m pretty sure the decision to wear push-up bras is one women make themselves.  And yes I know it’s to please us nasty male oppressors (as you no doubt think of us) but then men do all sorts of stupid things to please women.

It’s a two-way street, with both sides looking for something.

Two, she did say there was a difference between legally enforced and socially enforced.

I don’t even see how that’s relevant.  In the middle east, women who don’t wear the proper attire are ostracized, beaten or worse.  In America, women who don’t wear bras...are gawked at usually.

Three, it is normally considered to be polite to do things that you would normally not do when in foreign cultures.  I don’t jump up and down during a church services, out of respect for the culture, and I’m sure there are plenty of things that you do to show politeness to a host that you would not otherwise do.

Well, yeah.  We all do.  But again, that’s not really the point.  Gramma Nancy submitted to a custom devised by religious zealots to oppress their women.  That’s not something anyone should respect.

I’ll let Oriana Fallaci, who had more feminism in her little finger than any of you shallow-minded twits who lay claim to that title could ever hope to posses, make my point:

Fallaci continued posing indignant questions about the treatment of women in the new Islamic state. Why, she asked, did Khomeini compel women to “hide themselves, all bundled up,” when they had proved their equal stature by helping to bring about the Islamic revolution? Khomeini replied that the women who “contributed to the revolution were, and are, women with the Islamic dress”; they weren’t women like Fallaci, who “go around all uncovered, dragging behind them a tail of men.” A few minutes later, Fallaci asked a more insolent question: “How do you swim in a chador?” Khomeini snapped, “Our customs are none of your business. If you do not like Islamic dress you are not obliged to wear it. Because Islamic dress is for good and proper young women.” Fallaci saw an opening, and charged in. “That’s very kind of you, Imam. And since you said so, I’m going to take off this stupid, medieval rag right now.” She yanked off her chador.

In a recent e-mail, Fallaci said of Khomeini, “At that point, it was he who acted offended. He got up like a cat, as agile as a cat, an agility I would never expect in a man as old as he was, and he left me. In fact, I had to wait for twenty-four hours (or forty-eight?) to see him again and conclude the interview.”

As for this:

Four, Pelosi did not get a boob job.

It was a joke.  Honestly, you’re wound way too tight.

Five, “personal choice” is misleading.  It is no more a “personal choice” for a woman to wear a bra than it is for a man to wear a suit at work.  It is considered necessary attire for women in almost any setting.  Why don’t you actually try reading the post?

Suits at work aren’t necessary for men.  Lots of men have jobs where they don’t have to wear suits.  Jobs they chose.  Women can choose to not wear bras too.  Of course, how other people react to that might not be something they like, but that’s how a free society works.  You are free to be you, and I am free to think of you whatever I want.

Finally, the jello wrestling is sexist

That’s just something ugly girls say…

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.

Jello wrestling is sexist?  WTF?

Perhaps she does not udnerstand what “sexist” means.  Sexist implies discriminatory on the basis of sex just like racist implies discriminatory on the basis of race.

Therefore, according to her use of these terms, it is also “racist” because the women are white only.  It is sexist for me to like looking at women jello wrestling and it is racist for men to like looking at white women instead of a collective group of multicultural women.

I suggest Lucy Liu, Salma Hayak and perhaps Halle Berry for the next round of jello wrestling so as not to offend anyone by being both racist and sexist.

No jello wrestling.  Sword fight.  To the death, but with plenty of clothes cut off in the meantime.  Now is that sexist or racist?  I think not.

Justin B. on April 6, 2007 at 08:48 pm

Oh, yeah, and of course no bras, because they are like “repressive to women”.

Justin B. on April 6, 2007 at 08:50 pm

Antigone said,...ahh, who cares? She’s just another wound-up “feminist” who hates North Dakota.

There is not a single redeemable quality about this whole back-water state.

Why does she say this? Because she thinks that opposition to abortion (you know, that practice that kills a lot of females) and parental rights when it comes to their childrens’ health care is “stupid, cruel, and misogynist”.

“Feminist”, my ass. Cassandra Jerde AKA Antigone AKA Goddess is an idiot. Pure and simple. She’s a straight up looney toon.

likwidshoe on April 7, 2007 at 12:40 am

Gents,

One thing about feminazis.  They hate men, cut and dried.  They resent being looked on with lust by men, they hate the fact that women give pleasure to men and they REALLY hate women who love to be with men.

They exude this how dare you sexualize my breasts vibe from them, trying to de-eroticize (if such a term exists) their breasts.  Incidentally, many of those in the TopFree protests really should be covered up because they sport non-Playboy class boobs. [WARNING: Clicking on that link may find you clawing at your face, screaming My eyes! My eyyyyyyes! ]

I think a big part of their anger boils down to jealousy. They are jealous of the power hot women have over men and want to mess up the male-female dynamic so many of us, of both sexes enjoy.

Incidentally, Europe kind of went through a cycle of going topless or at least braless everywhere for awhile during the 1970’s.

More recently, women’s undergarments have made a comeback.  Daughters are seeing the telling effects of gravity on their moms and want to fight the Cooper’s Droop that now are plaguing European women in the 40’s and 50’s.

Cassandra, Nanny Pelosi has had extensive cosmetic surgery, including breast enhancement. Compare publicly available photos of her from the ‘80s to today. And she has had enough botox shot into her face to kill a rhino.

These pseudo-feminists hate the fact that a man invented the bra, despite that it has liberated women from back pain and work-place injuries (imagine getting your [drooping] breast caught in a mechanical loom) and given them the freedom to participate in many activities they were previously unable to undertake comfortably. Prior to the invention of the bra, many women resorted to binding or strapping their breasts, which was much less comfortable.
As far as Pelosi wearing a head-scarf whilst in Damascus, it’s about the only way to get your voice heard in such a male-dominated culture/religion/country.
It ain’t right, but it’s the way it is. The only way this would change any time soon, would be if a messiah/prophet were to appear that the Islamic world accepted, who then said that this practice was wrong.

Most Lesbanians I know here in the UK don’t give a crap whether they are referred to as dykes, if they have short hair and dress in masculine clothing. Within their ‘community’ they themselves call these people ‘dykes’. It may well be different over there, where it seems that people and their lifestyles are much more polarised.

I’m not sure your claim is totally correct. Of course if it is then I apologize
Marie Tuceks did patent a “breast supporter” in 1893, but Marie apparently failed to successfully market her product.
While similar inventions for supporting the breasts previously existed, Polly Phelps was the first to patent an undergarment named ‘Brassiere, in 1914.

Anna, I stand corrected! The brassiere or soutien-gorge was marketed by Herminie Cadolle in Paris, 1900. However, she could easily have developed it earlier at her boutique in Brazil. The term ‘brassiere’ (according to Wikipedia [and before you lot say it, I know it ain’t 100% reliable]) has been used as early as 1893.

Foxie Woman, I prefer the small, pert and firm titties too.
