Vonnie Walbert, vice president of human resources at Pizza Hut’s corporate offices in Dallas, said last week that employees are not allowed to carry guns “because we believe that that is the safest for everybody.”

Vonnie is assuming that Pizza Hut employs incompetent people.

  • dukefan

The location that the driver was fired from is a franchisee location owned by NPC International. If you felt inclined to comment, both Vonnie Walbert (VP of Human Resources) and Linda Sheedy (VP of Marketing) might like to hear your thoughts on their company’s position requiring employees to submit helplessly to criminals and just pray that they are not killed in the process. The phone number is 913-327-3107, or they could be reached via EM at vonnie.walbert@npcinternational.com and linda.sheedy@npcinternational.com.

Come on Rob, their meat lovers pizza is awesome in my opinion. But I do love Papa John’s and being 21 I am not too worried about what I eat.

  • 2Hotel9

This happens a lot more than most people know. Very often all you have to do is pull your piece and said criminal scumbag takes off, no police involvement or report.

Here in PA there have been several lawsuits against restaurants for refusing to deliver to high crime neighborhoods. So far the courts have sided with the restaurants, citing safety of the employees above the convenience of customers.

Give him another gun and a medal courtesy of Pizza Hut. Look at all the money he saved them.

Now if people at my job were being robbed in the building my employer would have to do the minimum to protect employees, yet Pizza Slut announces to the world “our employees WILL carry cash, hot pizza, and when called will come to you. But they WILL NOT carry guns or protect themselves in any way. Why are they so concerned about scumbag criminals, yet oblivious to employee safety?

Likwidshoe. That is one reason. (by the way, you beat me to the quote,

employees are not allowed to carry guns “because we believe that that is the safest for everybody.”

What a PC quote if I ever heard one. Safe for who, the robbers? Does Iowa have the Castle Defense laws like 20 other states?

This is the type of honest citizen who followed the rules and went through the training, got the background check and defended his life with a gun– the same weapon the attempted robber used.

OK, I took the high road, skipped the gratuitous PizzaHut bashing. But yea. Their pizza is like a shopvac, it sucks and blows.

  • Pilgrim

At the risk of being Captain Obvious – just what was this guy supposed to do?

I’m sure he delivers pizza to only all the best neighborhood and I just can’t imagine how something like this could possibly happen.

I like the Pizza Hut spokesman’s comment that their employees aren’t allowed to carry guns because “everyone’s safer” that way.

Except for their employees, that is.

Boycott Pizza Hut? No problem. Their Pizza sucks anyway. Now, Papa john’s…..THAT’S a pizza.

What Mickey says. I’ve been boycotting Pizza Hut for years because I’m not exactly keen on filling my arteries in one meal. Not for that taste, anyways. :^)

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Pizza Hut could probably save themselves a decent amount of losses from robbery, etc. if they encouraged their drivers to carry guns. After all, how many criminals are going to want to take on a potentially armed driver over $20 – $40?

As for boycotting Pizza Hut, I already was both because their pizza sucks and I’m on a diet. But I’ll be happy to extend the reason for my boycott to this.

    Boycott Pizza Hut and Dominoes.
For a franchise of this size you would think that they would like to keep customers.
Upon calling both of them for a delivery… I was told they they don’t deliver to our suburb (4 miles from the stores). One said it was corporate decision in Wichita, KS. The other said they deliver to the motel in our town, but not to houses.

Shame on you both. We have about 200 population in this town and are well within the delivery radius. Not to mention we always tip well to make them want to deliver. Parts of town that they do deliver to are actually farther away than we are.

We will now only order from 2 other Pizza franchises.

Someone needs to blow this place up. They have bushed me too far!!

I am in the process of trying to find the number for Human Resources for Pizza Hut.  Is it not funny how these types of numbers are so hard to get ahold of?  I found the person, but not his number.  I guess I’ll have to search further.

My complaint is that the restaurant here in our town will not give the employees their schedules until that very day.  That’s right — my son has to call in every morning to get his schedule.  But you can be that the manager has her schedule, I’ll bet.  The state of Washington says this is legal.  Legal or not, I think it’s a shitty practice, and the Yum Corporation should be ashamed of it.
