Bocephus To Run For US Senate?

It looks like that’s the case.

Just when you thought no worthwhile musician would ever support the Republican Party, Hank Williams Jr. comes a courtin’.

After consulting with Tennessee political veterans ex-Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) and Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), the award-winning country singer famous for the hits “Family Tradition” and “Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound” is positioning himself for a Senate run in 2012, according to Townhall.com.

I’m a fan of Williams’ music.  I certainly hope he’s taking this seriously.  I’d need to learn more about his policy stances before I decide whether or not this is a good idea.

But right off the bat I can say his song “If The South Woulda Won” is going to prove problematic in a campaign.

Wow, a son who gets to be where he is based on his father.  I wonder where the Republicans got that strategy?

In a way, I agree with you.
His father’s death was the catalyst for his success.
That said, he should not even try to run for political office.
I don’t feel that he would represent his supporters properly.

You might just have a point there, rube.

Now all we need is Dale Earnhardt, Jr. to run for the House from North Carolina.  Yee-haw!

Ahh, Conventional Wisdom, don’t you just love it?
I read the lyrics to the song and I don’t see anything in there to worry a red blooded American. Drug pushers get thrown out of Miami, killers get hung by a rope- what’s not to like?
Oh, wait- I see! the South! The cradle of racism, the Klan, Jim Crow- sure enough. You know, some of you guys need to get rid of your residual guilt. Weren’t those Democratic institutions? Or did I miss something? I thought Lincoln was a Republican?
You know seriously, I don’t know if Hank Jr. would be such a hot idea in Congress, but could he be anything as bad as some we have in there already?

Good Old Boy, my problem with the song is mostly with the “if the south wold of won” thing.

The Civil War was about slavery.  If the south would of won this country would have been torn apart by it.

I don’t think that’s anything to celebrate.

That being said, that “southern pride” thing is a schtick of Williams.  I don’t think he’s really pro-slavery, and I’d be surprised if he was a racist.

Before I support him I’d like to know more about his policies, but just from what I know I’d say that he’d probably be better than, say, Al Franken.

The purpose of government shouldn’t be to do good, but simply to refrain from doing evil.

Frankly, I couldn’t care less about Hank Williams Jr. I don’t know a thing about him. But if he does run, and he’s subject to some BS politically correct attack on his music, I’’ send a check.

The Civil War was about slavery.

Anyone who thinks this is obviously not from the South.  The North made it about slavery in order to gain popular support, but slavery is not the reason that the Confederacy seceded.

In the case of the US civil war, slavery was simply a catalyst, nothing more.  The real reasons cannot be explained in one word, so most grade school teachers accept the “slavery” answer.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am anti-slavery and pro-unification, but I am also a federalist and pro-states rights.

Slavery is the main reason the south seceded. It’s not the only reason, but it’s a blatant lie to say slavery had nothing to do with it.

It’s all political bullshit. Liberals (and Robert108) lie and spin and twist and obscure and distract and cheat to protect their guys and hurt the opposing team. It’s like wrestling. They distract the ref while their team mate hits you with a chair. There’s no rule they won’t break, no law they won’t skirt, no crime they won’t forgive as long as they can win.

According to the history books I’ve read, the slavery issue was a 10th hour addition to draw the remaining detractors into the deal.
We all most likely agree that slavery is unacceptable on any level. But the general public thought that the War was all about slavery is just wrong.
ALso, Southern Pride is more than a “schtick”. It’s a way of Life.
