Blue Cross Blue Shield Director: Health Care Bill Will Limit Insurance Options From 50 To 4

A starting revelation on the Scott Hennen Show today from Rod St. Aubyn, Director of Government Relations for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. St. Aubyn notes that under Obamacare, all polices offered in North Dakota must be approved by the Secretary of Health and Human Services and that this approval process will force BCBS to reduce its insurance offerings from over fifty different policies…to four (full audio of the interview here).

How is this not a government take over of health care? The government must approve any policy you can buy, and because of the government’s involvement the number of choices you have in picking insurance is going to be reduced drastically.
Remember that Senator Kent Conrad promised not to vote for any health care bill that represents a government take over of health care:

Now Conrad is telling us that this bill isn’t a government take over of health care. And yet, you can’t get health insurance without the government first approving your policy. If that’s not a take over, what is?

Mind numbingly hypocritical when you consider that initially, Obamacare was sold to the public as “an additional choice”.
Fewer choices. Fewer doctors. Higher costs. Longer waits. Welcome to Obamacare!

Revelations like this will surely bolster the acceptance of Obamacare before the November elections…right?

everybody will have to purchase healthcare coverage from the government…

That’s the problem…”everybody” do not work and pay their own way anymore!
How will people that choose to be unemployed, people that work for cash, people that sell illegal drugs for a living, etc actually “purchase” their healthcare.

Why does it reduce the number of policies available? Is it because the paperwork isn’t worth it, or is it because some of the policies won’t meet the govt standards?

  • robert108

Don’t worry; obama will reduce the number of choices to 1 soon enough. Govt control of markets means fewer choices, rationing and shortages.

WOW! When I shopped for insurance, I wasn’t presented with 50 options, thank God. It was hard enough to differentiate between 4 that were available. An unintended consequence? A welcome consequence, for sure.

here is another big winner from all this; sounds to me like they are going to be firing some folks at blue. as the process is simplified, i bet they need less workers to monitor things.

how is this not on the front page of the forum BEFORE this passed?

  • sayanything-277

Of course, all this is designed to lead to the single payer sytem when everybody will have to purchase healthcare coverage from the government. Then all of you whatever your age will be on the same program (medicare) forced on older people like me. Aren’t you all thrilled?

  • sayanything-65837

Or as Kevin Jackson calls it, DeathCare. And Stephen Kruiser calls it CubaCare.

    The latter.

  • sayanything-2361

    You’re not pro-choice then?

Wake up call to you lefties! Just a start of things to come. It's time you woke up and stopped believing that the big O has your best interests at heart. The financial reform bill will be just as controlling. I simply cannot believe anyone wants this type of big government controlling every aspect of your life. November is our only shot of reversing this. Otherwise we're buried in legislation that screams socialism, or screams racist if you oppose it. God help us.
