Bloomberg: The Cops Should Go On Strike For Gun Control
11:34am
“I don’t understand why police officers across this country don’t stand up collectively and say we’re going to go on strike, we’re not going to protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what’s required to keep us safe,” New York Mayor Michael BLoomberg told Piers Morgan on CNN. “Police officers want to go home to their families. And we’re doing everything we can to make their job more difficult, but more importantly, more dangerous, by leaving guns in the hands of people who shouldn’t have them and letting people who have those guns buy things like armor piercing bullets.”
So we’re going to promote public safety by getting the cops to stop protecting the public?
This is actually a bit more sinister than it seems at first blush. Bloomberg is suggesting that the police impose their political will on the public (suppose that gun control is actually the political will of the police, which is very much in dispute) by putting the public in danger.
That’s a recipe for a police state, and is exactly the reason why first responders like police officers and fire fighters often aren’t allowed to go on strike. Because they shouldn’t be allowed to hold the public hostage to their political demands.
