Blacks At Work Under Bush

Human Events Online:

On the 10th anniversary of the Million Man March this month, Louis Farrakhan led what he called the “Millions More Movement,” which, ironically, appeared to have hundreds of thousands fewer attendees.

Here’s a possible explanation: A lot of people had to work that day. After all, anybody keeping up with the African-American unemployment rate would know that it is at one of its lowest levels ever.

George W. Bush is laying a claim to be the President who did the best job creating jobs for blacks. Currently, black unemployment is 9.4%, which is significantly lower than the 10% it averaged in the Clinton years. The current rate is also much lower than the average black unemployment rate over the past 30 years, which is 12.4%.

Meanwhile, Farrakhan, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and people like them continue to use innuendo (and, at times, straight-up conspiracy theory) to suggest that President Bush, and Republicans in general, hate black people and do everything in their power to keep them down in poverty.

To a fawning liberal media who are, collectively, incapable of calling them on their B.S., no less.

President Bush spurs economic growth buy pushing much-needed tax cuts through Congress. This economic growth results in plunging unemployment rate. The whole country is going back to work, including minorities, yet Bush will get no credit for this from people like Sharpton or Jackson.

Down in Florida the President's brother has instituted a vouchers-like education program that has kindled a firestorm of positive test scores from minority students, yet do you think that Gov. Bush get's one lick of credit for this from the likes of Sharpton or Jackson? Are Sharpton or Jackson joining with Republicans to institute programs like this in other states where it is badly needed? Like California? Or New York?

Of course not. They're busy convincing their...constituency (I guess, for lack of a better word, though they're not really elected) that Republicans are evil. That Republicans want to keep minorities down.

It's a damn shame.

I thought according to Farrakhan that the way Bush lowered the Black unemployment rate was by drowning all those poor Blacks in New Orleans by blowing up the levies…

Perhaps it is you who is the sophist. Why did you bring food stamps up? Care to answer or shall I expect another insult in lieu of an explanation?

I think I know the answer to that question.

True if you believe hungry people,(men, women and mostly children ) are better workers.

If the food stamp program really is working, then we should need less of it over time, as it cures the problems it was created to cure. Right?

Food Stamps are supposed to provide nutrition to those who are in need.

you are saying that food stamps are a black program.

Woof:  Food stamps are supposed to provide for people in need.  Giving them food stamps will remove them from being in need, so that they can lead happier, more productive lives.  When they become happier and more productive, they will become more able to provide for themselves, therefore will no longer need the food stamps, or their need for them will be reduced.  So, if we cut the amount of food stamps(or decrease the amount of increase, the reality here), that is a sign that the food stamp program is working, right?  This should make you happy.
Of course, if your real purpose is to redistribute income, then you would be unhappy, since you don’t really want to make long term improvements for the needy people.  You want them to remain needy, so that they will have ever increasing need for govt support, thus empowering govt at the expense of the productive members of society.  Which one is it?

...it’s just like that part in 1984 (bringing it all back to the recent orwell post) where whazzizname is working his newspeak desk and he gets the headline “Chocolate rations to be cut by 5%” but his job is to make it say “Chocolate rations to increase by 5%” and the next day everybody’s cheering at the announcement that they’re gonna get more chocolate. This crap about more work is bogus. Is anybody really paying attention to the fact that wherever they go, people are more desperate for work then ever and are picking up jobs for less than they were making years ago? I wonder in what kind of bubble some of you live in sometimes.

Where I live, food stamp recipients get some kind of gov’t electronic grocery debit card.

I have heard of lobster dinners being exchanged for sex. Tasty and fun, though it is difficult to remove the butter stains from sheets.

I would hate to find out that spending on food stamps was actually increasing while we’re talking about a cut.

I would guess that most of us inhabit the American bubble where unemployment hovers around five percent and where the home ownership rates are at all time highs.

Some enlighted liberal in making their argument for more government programs to help the poor took an article about black unemployment and the Millions More Movement and tried to throw in a dig at the Republicans over cutting food stamps.  This confirms the relationship between the liberal mindset and the African American community.  Liberals never want to see any positives and they take a “White Man’s Burden” approach to race relations.  All poor people are minorities and all minorities are poor.  They can’t help it--they are minorities.  One of two things--either the program is working and there are less people that need assistance (as evidenced by record minority homeownership, lower unemployment, etc), or the program is not working and needs to be reformed or eliminated.

But the Liberals are not willing to accept either of those outcomes.  Their desired effect is to continue redistributing funds to the poor and minorities as an effort to redistribute income and reward their constituencies for voting for them.  What they want are ineffective programs that last for generations, have no tangible benefit, and stagnate the class mobility of minorities so that they continue to vote Democrat.

What happens when a black or hispanic gets educated, becomes affluent, becomes a homeowner, and leaves the Public Housing that the Democrats run to start paying taxes and living in the suburbs with their “EQUALS”?  Guess what, they start becoming more conservative and seeing the waste of THEIR tax money on poorly run social programs and giveaways to the ghetto that do nothing to help other poor folks living in poverty.  Note how as affluence rises in the African American community and the Hispanic community, the percentage that vote Democrat is also falling.

Besides handouts, what does the Democratic Party offer to the African American or Hispanic community?  Abortions on Demand?  Are there any jobs coming to the ghetto under Clinton?  Nope.  What does Jesse or Al or Farrakhan do to bring jobs or homeownership to the ghetto?  They have been leading their communities for three decades and the smart and affluent blacks that make something of their lives see through the BS.

Justin, good point. But, to answer your question, Democrats only offer the teat from which the downtrodden suck on. They do not offer anything other than money, food and housing to these people because the democratic party REQUIRES a portion of the population to only be able to survive on government assistance for their party line to hold any sway over anyone in a capitalist society. See, if everyone subscribed to the survival of the fittest, then there would be no need for a political party that wants decent hard working Americans to pay more taxes so Sheniqua can be unemployed and take care of her 14 children without having to worry herself with being held accountable for her actions. If people like sheniqua were given limited amounts of resources, designed to increase her chances of getting on her feet and not relying solely on the Government for help, then they would have less voters with which to pass their Welfare programs, and less people to exploit to the general public in hopes of rallying to their cause, while all the while not giving these same people any credit that they might be able to make it on their own.

And before someone calls me an elitist, I will say that I see the need for state and government assistance, to a point. Rob was right in saying that the reason unemployment among blacks was down is not because of some ill-fated increase of welfare, but because his party instituted programs that coupled the government assistance with programs designed to teach these people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and become productive members of their society.

But, I guess there would be less situations for people like Kis to get enraged about if he and his party actually gave a fuck enough about the people they claim to champion to allow them to climb up. After all, their just poor people, right Kis? How smart could they be. Why give them a chance, right Kis? Lets just keep giving them money, so we can continue exploiting them. That’s much easier.
