Bite Sized Wisdom: George Washington

image

If in the opinion of the people the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the Constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this in one instance may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed. The precedent must always greatly overbalance in permanent evil any partial or transient benefit which the use can at any time yield.

If only we could get the activist judges to understand this.

George reminds me of some latter day politicians:

Bill Clinton: First in the Tarts of His Countrymen.

Dick Cheney: First, in the side of the head of His Countrymen.

John Edwards: First in the Pockets of His Countrymen.

A troll is someone who only wants to stir up trouble, not have an honest debate.  Some signs that a poster is a troll:
* Dodges questions from other posters * Refuses to give sources
* When one of its arguments is shown to be false, either ignores the proof or moves the goalposts.  Heh. (From the LGF faq)

While George said it a lot better and let’s face it first, in my own words I have been saying just this for a long time. Sadly, Kbiel - not just the Judiciary but also the Legislative branch have both often amended the clear meanings of the Constitution for various political ends and to out harm!

No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.

Until just a few years ago I didn’t understand what a real powerhouse this man was. Read about him. He was truly an admirable person.

They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

Except that a strict constructionist judiciary (or at least one that didn’t find emanations and penumbras or consulted international law) would keep the legislative and executive branches in line.
