Bipartisanship: Both McCain Voters And Obama Voters United In Opposition To Amnesty

McCain supporters more so than Obama supporters, but still. Why aren’t Republicans making more of this issues? Why didn’t the GOP nominate a candidate who could have articulated a staunch, believable platform against illegal immigration?

A new Zogby poll shows only about a third of Obama’s voters supported him because of his backing for an amnesty, while two-thirds either voted for him despite his support for amnesty (15%) or it wasn’t a factor at all in their decision (51%). Interestingly, among McCain voters, 59% did it despite his amnesty stance, 28% didn’t care, and only 11% supported him because of his backing of amnesty. The respondents overall backed enforcement over legalization by 3 to 1, but they were also asked whether those positions were less important to them than a year ago — 11% of enforcement supporters backed it less intensely than a year ago, but fully 20% of amnesty supporters were less committed.

If Republicans in Washington DC were a little less worried about what liberal media reporters think of their immigration stance, and a little more worried about what the American people think, they might do a little bit better in elections.

Both parties are pandering to the foreign national vote!

I wonder why this didn't come up more during the campaign?

  • Hoth

It didn't come up more in the campaign because it would have made republicans even less enthusiastic about McCain than they already were.

    What is amnsesty?

A true amnesty would not bar illegal aliens from applying for admission to the United States, but would still require that they return to their home countries and face no criminal charges.

Allowing illegal aliens to remain in the country permanantly is something far more permissive that mere amnesty.

Does it matter what the politicians call it? It is still a rather large problem. Illegal aliens are more likely to be involved in a crime than legal immigrants (crimes besides illegal immigration), and that is something of a problem when the amount of crimes that illegal aliens are involved in is taken into consideration.

And I absolutely hate the fact that anyone in favor of finding ways to get rid of all these illegal aliens is racist.

why not just adhere to the law and send them back ,I have nothing against any foreign person but there are laws that are in place and we should use them if not then change them but not to the point we are flooded with them. if we need more people why not stop abortion now and in 18 years we would have plenty of work force in all types of work.If government had their way we would be limited to one child and after that they would be left on the floor to die.
