Bill Richardson: God Says Iowa Should Have Earliest Primary

Huh?

“Iowa, for good reason, for constitutional reasons, for reasons related to the Lord should be the first caucus and primary,” Richardson, New Mexico’s governor said at the Northwest Iowa Labor Council Picnic. “And I want you to know who was the first candidate to sign a pledge not to campaign anywhere if they got ahead of Iowa. It was Bill Richardson.”
Several people in the crowd snickered after Richardson made the comment.
“That was a little weird,” said Sioux City resident Joe Shufro. “I don’t know what God had to do with choosing Iowa among other states. I found that a little strange.”

I don’t know what God thinks of Iowa’s primary, but I’d like to hear Richardson quote to me the part of the Constitution that addresses Iowa’s primary.

Hmmm…he’s decent on 2nd Amendment issues now he is claiming God wants Iowa to have the first caucus…

…perhaps this is an impression of Charlton Heston?

I think God should go back to his traditional occupation of determining the winner of sports games.

Iowa is first for a simple reason: because it is a caucus, because Iowa is home to several very influential special interests, it gives an early flavor to the party of who’s willing to play ball within the system. And if you want to be rewarded for your years of slaving at various appointed positions with a federal job, you want someone who respects the system.

Iowa is the first “corn” to be harvested.

Of course corn is grown all over the country.

Also the corn would have had to be grain since Corn or Maize was a new world crop. Most of the ancestors of modern grains were of middle eastern of origin.

I think Bills just a nut.

Is this heaven? No, it’s Iowa.

Apparently Richardson has the same wacko beliefs as the other Democratic candidates. Who would have guessed…

I think Iowa should have a earlier primary, because its not a good town and also they don’t have a exact politicale leader to rule over that town.

Of course he was joking! But, if you want to get literal, According to most Old Testament commentaries, “corn” or grain was the first item to be harvested: “And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm….” Is. 17:5; and then the olives and grapes. So, using Corn or Iowa as the first fruits, it is actually a great analogy. Iowa is the first “corn” to be harvested.

Forming a “more perfect union”, and promoting the “general welfare” means an orderly nominating process, too! Thus, Iowa should remain as the preeminent caucus!

Both a biblical and constitutional scholar; with each passing moment, the Governor continues to amaze me! LOL (get a sense of humor!)

I think Iowa is a very bad state to be first. For one they don’t have an election, only party Caucus’s which skews the results. For another Iowa is very reflective of the country as a whole.

Of course the real problem comes from the hype from the media about how important Iowa is. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

We do need a better system but I don’t know what that is.

Iowa is perfect for the politicians!
Iowa bunch of favors to big contributors,
Iowa bunch of money to campaign staffers,
Iowa lot of money for campaign expenses…

How true, Arnold. In my opinion, the people lost control of the elective process when the party system was added to the ballot i.e. pushing one lever to select all candidates in one party. In 2004, approximately 1/3 of voted by party line.
