Bill Burck: If Republicans Had Nominated Purdon Someone Would Be Going To Jail
This morning news (that I’d called days ago) broke about the nomination of DNC committeeman and partisan hack Tim Purdon to North Dakota’s US Attorney position. Scott Hennen had some experts on his show, including former special counsel to the Bush administration Bill Burck and former US Attorney Andrew McCarthy, to react.
You can listen to the audio here:
Burck notes specifically that if Purdon were a Republican appointee someone would be going to jail. At least by the standards the liberals applied to the Bush administration.
Personally, I think the President can appoint whoever he wants to be US Attorney. Obama is the President, and the attorneys at the Justice Department serve at his pleasure. But I think it’s more than fair for commentators to point out that Purdon is a party hack with close ties to a disgraced national politician (John Edwards). He’s a money man for the party, and this appointment is less about his being qualified to hold this position than it’s about rewarding him for his political activities.
