Big Media: We’re Just Doing Our Jobs And Asking Questions

Roger Simon at The Politico offers a faux-apology for the media’s bad behavior in overing Sarah Palin.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On behalf of the media, I would like to say we are sorry.
On behalf of the elite media, I would like to say we are very sorry.
We have asked questions this week that we should never have asked.
We have asked pathetic questions like: Who is Sarah Palin? What is her record? Where does she stand on the issues? And is she is qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?
We have asked mean questions like: How well did John McCain know her before he selected her? How well did his campaign vet her? And was she his first choice?
Bad questions. Bad media. Bad.
It is not our job to ask questions. Or it shouldn’t be. To hear from the pols at the Republican National Convention this week, our job is to endorse and support the decisions of the pols.

If Simon were correct and the media was just limiting their questions about Sarah’s stand on the issues and her record as a politician I’d agree with him. But his suggestion that such questions are the some total of the media blizzard that has surrounded Sarah Palin is just plain dishonest.
Reporters have been asking for Sarah to grant a paternity test for her youngest son Trig. They’ve slammed the Palins over their teenage daughter’s pregnancy. They’ve questioned whether or not she can be a good mother while pursuing her political career.
Those aren’t “where do you stand on the issues” questions. Those aren’t “are you qualified to lead” questions. Those are “we want to destroy you” questions.

The problem is the questions not listed. The questions about her daughter, her ability to do her job because she is a mother, the focus on Sarah and whatever negative they can dig up, or even make up and issue a retraction of, while avoiding the same when dealing with the other candidates.

Actually. that is the real mistreatment here. The focus on Sarah and her minuscule negatives while avoiding the real negatives of the others, especially the democratic candidates. No one is talking about Biden’s plagarism, his indicted family members, his career choice in light of being a single dad. If it wasn’t for the internet would we even know of Barack’s pastor, mentors, Ayers, Rezko, or his dirt poor brother? Where is the same depth and fervor with which they go after Palin? There are so many legitimate stories to pursue in regards to these other candidates, yet the media all but ignores them unless their hand is forced and even then they avoiding anything probing. This clearly has the appearance of sexism. After all, why aren’t the men in the race being examined and probed as closely?

This has been the best information I’ve found on Mrs. Palin so far:

    http://fairlyconservative.com/the-race-for-president/a-chat-with-anne-kilkenny-from-alaska/

It’s one of the few things I’ve found that discusses her time as mayor without turning into generalities.

“our job is to endorse and support the decisions of the pols.”

Does he mean like he has done for Democrats?

  • prvanhorn

And someone actually expected the media to be fair to her??? She is a strong REPUBLICAN…

How are the Palins playing the victim.

woofie, who listens to Dr Laura? Exactly when was she ever the voice of any political party?

I read the full article. What a BS rant. With all the bad MSM coverage, attacking her children, husband. Digging into the past were her husband had a dui 21 years ago. And the only questions he says they asked are about her past political life. No wonder the MSM is starting to be ridiculed. I think the old guard in the MSM is scared. The next few months are going to be amazing. I am not sure if it is going to be good or bad but it will be amazing.

LOL! Like all the questions they asked about the Edwards affair? Or, how about Rezko? Ayers?

Libs are the most self-deluded people on the planet – they “live in a world without time, where sound collides with color and shadows explode” – and have exactly no ability to see themselves as the actually are.

    What a crock.

I guess Rodger is just the white hat wearing Lone Ranger. He’s all heart and righteousness and good stuff. Other that or he’s an ass.

The GOP can dish it, but they can’t take it. They whine, just like the Democrats (who they deride for playing the victim card).

Nothing left out there but a bunch of little victims. Nobody wants to play fair and everybody wants to pretend that they do. All this identity politics and victim card playing makes me sick. Whoever gets elected, it’ll be for the wrong reasons I fear.

Actually those questions come from the right.
    Dr Laura

I am haunted by the family pictures of the Palins during political photo-ops, showing the eldest daughter, now pregnant with her own child, cuddling the family’s newborn. When Mom and Dad both work full-time (no matter how many folks get involved with the children), it becomes a somewhat chaotic situation. Certainly, if a child becomes ill and is rushed to the hospital, and you’re on the hotline with both Israel and Iran as nuclear tempers are flaring, where’s your attention going to be? Where should your attention be?

They’ve slammed the Palins over their teenage daughter’s pregnancy. They’ve questioned whether or not she can be a good mother while pursuing her political career.
