Biden’s Goal Wasn’t Winning A Debate, It Was Belittling Paul Ryan

Based on the early polling, Paul Ryan won tonight’s debate. CNN had him winning 48% – 44% overall (CNBC had Ryan winning by 20 points, for what it’s worth), and leading Biden by 10 points in likability and seven points in “who was most in touch.”

But in the area of acting like a smirking, elderly jackhole? Biden took the cake. An excerpt:

So what was with the cackling and the interruptions and the generally boorish behavior? I think that was Biden’s goal. He didn’t want to win an argument with Paul Ryan about the issues, he wanted to mock and deride him.

According to one count, Biden interrupted Ryan no fewer than 82 times.

Earlier this week Obama said his problem in the first debate is that he was “too polite.” Tonight was Biden trying to correct that problem, and simultaneously fire up a liberal base that had been down in the dumps since Romney’s strong performance against an out-to-lunch Obama.

For some reason, I’m reminded of the sheep in Orwell’s animal farm, always chanting slogans so that the opposition couldn’t get a word in edgewise.
