Biden: Obama Might Bring Criminal Charges Against Bush After Elected

Palin was right.  Biden should have gotten this Vice President thing in writing.

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden said yesterday that he and running mate Barack Obama could pursue criminal charges against the Bush administration if they are elected in November.

Biden’s comments, first reported by ABC news, attracted little notice on a day dominated by the drama surrounding his Republican counterpart, Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

But his statements represent the Democrats’ strongest vow so far this year to investigate alleged misdeeds committed during the Bush years.

“If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation, they will be pursued,” Biden said during a campaign event in Deerfield Beach, Florida, according to ABC.

“[N]ot out of vengeance, not out of retribution,” he added, “out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no attorney general, no president—no one is above the law.”

The minute Obama announced Biden as his VP we all knew this was going to happen, right?  That Biden was going to say stupid thing that leaves Obama scrambling to back away from his comments?

I, personally, think Americans are tired of the left’s crusade against Bush.  The Democrats’ concerted efforts to convince everyone that McCain represents Bush’s third term haven’t gained any traction because most Americans aren’t as obsessed with Bush the way hardcore Democrats are.

If there’s a valid reason to see Bush prosecuted for crimes the Democrats have had two years in control of the Congress, the government branch where such proceedings begin, to find it and pursue it.  They’ve failed, which means that Biden’s bit of nonsense is the same sort of tiresome Bush derangement that began to seem childish around the time John Kerry accepted the Democrat nomination for President.

Besides, I think many Americans are coming around on Bush.  We’re winning in Iraq.  We just handed the largest, and most troublesome, Iraqi province over to the control of the Iraqi government.  Casualties are down.  Attacks are down.  General Petraeus is talking about bringing troops home next year, and the Iraqis are talking about a permanent end to all American combat operations by 2011.

The time when Bush-bashing was an effective political ploy has come and gone.

Old Joe is going to have to debate Gov. Palin so that ought to be interesting to say the least…

People were talking about a possible “Eagleton move” to dump the vice presidential candidate. Who knew it would be Biden?

Sarah Palin is a younger and smoother version of Ann Richards, and appears to have the toughness of a Maggie Thatcher.  Joe Biden is in trouble!  There is no way he can put on his “nasties” against Palin---he will lose big time!

All he said was that if they have broken the law they will prosecute them.  What is wrong with that?

What’s wrong with that is the only grounds for prosecution are fabrications from the teeny tiny liberal minds like yours.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

Do you think the President is above the law?  If he has broken laws he should be prosecuted.

Bullshit!  Democraps are the majority if they had evidence of a crime or an impeachable offense they would have been all over it already, they don’t, Biden is pandering to the leftards.  they won’t do squat because it would be a political nightmare for the foilheads to find out that Bush broke no laws.  I challenge Biden “don’t talk shit, do something”

This partisanship will only hurt the dems…

Um, this is Biden reiterating something that Obama has said several times. Inasmuch as it’s Biden saying something stupid...it’s really only Biden telling you what a douche his boss is.

Well Lestat, I guess Bill Clinton should do some time for lying about his staining the oval office carpet to fedral prosecutors.

Maybe you are too stupid to realize that Congress did charge him, but did not convict him.

When a President is in office it is called impeachment.

Such bravado! You sound like you could be him.

“Listen to me, I’m going to say this again. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.”

But you run with that ‘charged, but not convicted’ tack. It worked for...oh wait - it didn’t. It just made Clinton and his supporters sound like giant asses.

I agree with Kay and Halatbis: Palin will wipe the floor with this twit.

Actually, she will do the with O when the time comes, and it will.  Unlike, Kerry, Gore and donk losers, the O will get another run.

If there is some sort of hard evidence for wrongdoing, let it be brought forward against the president. That’s what makes our country a decent place to live people. I don’t think the president is a war criminal, but I do believe that if significant evidence was raised, he should be tried, free from exemptions, pardons or other preferential treatment.

I’d say the same thing about a Clinton or a Kennedy. It’s rule of law.

Eddie_the_Hated on September 4, 2008 at 07:44 am

My point Eddie is that in the almost 8 years Bush has been president no one has brought forth any serious charges of misconduct or malfeasance.  Why should that change after he has served his term?

Well that is not true.  And the people in his administration have refused to testify before Congress so the inquiries have stalled.

Hawk on September 4, 2008 at 10:24 am

Hawk, that’s called executive privilege.  Sorry, the fact of the matter is that sustainable charges have not yet been made.

Second time typing this message because of the inane operation of the security question.  Having voted for Bush twice I hardly call myself a liberal or Dem.  In fact I voted Republican all my life. I’m not 60.  But after seeing what Bush has done it’s mandatory that he be held accountable so our children and grandchildren have some freedom left.  No action encourages more lawlessness by future elected officials.  Being president doesn’t give an excuse for breaking the law.  Without the rule of law it would be impossible for any of us to live together in this nation.  Violation of the constitution is treasonous in my book.  The real terrorist lives at 1600 Pennsylvannia Ave.

Hawk, that’s called executive privilege.

And even executive privilege can be overcome if there is compelling evidence...which...there...is...NOT!

Violation of the constitution is treasonous in my book.

Like all of Congress? Ever hear of the Tenth Amendment? Congress passes laws all the time that violate the Tenth Amendment.

Proving you are either out of touch with reality, or are unspeakably ignorant as to the meaning of the words you write. I suspect the former.

Nothing dies around here. I, myself, have gone back and responded to old conversations months later.

Ever have a six response back and forth with someone that lasted two years? It can be kind of cool.

While I have has several long conversations, I can’t remember a single one ending in the declaration of nothing but deception & talking points.
The longer ones I’ve seen have either bloomed into an all-out pi$$in’ match or an actual exchange of ideas.

There is no way you sound like a conservative, don’t even give us that bullshit… So now we are going to bring up presidents on criminal charges? Maybe we should go back and charge Clinton with selling military secrets to the Chi-Coms, it works both way. It is not a good idea and isn’t going to happen. If the Dems want to lose their majority this would be a good way to go about doing it.
