Biden: Hillary May Have Been a Better Pick Than Me.

From ABC News:

“Make no mistake about this,” Biden responded. “Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Let’s get that straight. She’s a truly close personal friend, she is qualified to be president of the United States of America, she’s easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America, and quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me. But she’s first rate, I mean that sincerely, she’s first rate, so let’s get that straight.”

Spokesman Ben Porritt offered this response from the McCain camp: “Barack Obama’s most important decision of this election, and Biden—the candidate he selects—suggests, himself, that he wasn’t the right man for the job, and that Hillary Clinton would have been a better choice. Biden certainly has a credible viewpoint on this.”

Finally, Joe Biden says something we can all agree on!  Of course, it took him two paragraphs to say what should have taken a single sentence… but that’s just Biden in front of amike and a camera.

Comments

Because he is no match to Palin and brings nothing to the race that will bring a bump up for Obama like Palin has for McCain.

Yep, we are looking at the windup to another Eagelton scenario.

Now watch Biden intentionally make some outrageous gaffe so he has to step down.

Shouldn’t be hard for him.

The right spins itself dizzy over this one.

“Barack Obama’s most important decision of this election, and Biden—the candidate he selects—suggests, himself, that he wasn’t the right man for the job, and that Hillary Clinton would have been a better choice. Biden certainly has a credible viewpoint on this.”

First, a good director, VP, President whatever.....a good leader picks the right person for the job, not the most qualified or the person who maybe better skilled in one area over the other.

Anyone who is responsible for hiring top brass to a company or corporation knows that there are more important factors than who is the most qualified.  For instance, you can hire someone who is over qualified and may not be satisfied with the job.  They could hire someone who is very talented, but might have a culture clash with the rest of the organization or a different approach to the market place.

What Biden suggests is that HIllary is probably more qualified than him, possibly better suited to be President than a VP.  He also makes no mention of how she might fit into the Obama administration.

Certainly the McCain camp would have you believe that Biden’s comments are a reflection on Obama’s decision, but it is not.  Biden was simply building Hillary up, as any decent person would do who happen to best their friend.

It boggles the mind that they allow Joe Biden out and about without a muzzle and a handler whose job is to switch off the mike whenever Biden deviates from the script. The guy is a walking, talking gaffe machine and if anyone was paying any attention to what he says, he would probably be in even more hot water.

But Biden’s head exploding gaffe is just a sympton of what ails the Obama campaign. They are off balance, tentative, and clueless when it comes to strategizing a counter to Palin and her popularity which has hit the presidential campaign like a sudden thunderstorm and thrown everything out of whack. And the McCain camp, finally running on all cylinders and demonstrating a competence no one expected from it just a few months ago, is laying the wood to Obama and Biden for every misstep they make. They are making them pay – in spades. (Pardon the idiom but as Obama says, everyone uses it.)

Biden has really dropped of the face of the map since Sarah Barracuda has hit the scene.

Well of course.  She was a nobody with little experience who got dropped in a spot that was supposed to be for someone who could pick up the responsibilities of president on day one.  She isn’t that person, and we all know that.

So everybody is waiting to see how she will respond and the right is going gaga and the left is waiting for her to fall on her face.  She is interesting right now, but wait until tomorrow when she stops parroting her scripted speech.

When the debates come, well see what happens.  After the first two debates well know who can hold their own and who is just BS-ing.

Everybody knows Sarah is crunching for the debates and has to be trained on foreign policy.

H,

My, but you seem to have acquired an enormous amount of senior level executive acumen in a very short period of time.

Less than a month ago you were preaching this silly drivel,

Why is it fair that the new CEO they hired get’s a one million dollar signing bonus, before he has done anything, while the guys who develop and manage the shop make less than 100k a year?

They guy at the top just takes their reccomendations, that come from consultants and then gets a pat on the back for running things.  And his opinion constantly needs to be re-shaped by the guys below him.  It’s nuts brother.

Followed by this bit of leftwing, economics-illiterate stupidity:

It’s a good example of why some people who don’t really earn that money they get, should pay more than those who don’t get paid for what they are worth.

I don’t believe you have any more idea today what you’re talking about than you did then.  But the contrast is certainly amusing.  Paradoxical bullshit is still bullshit, kid.

Your missing the point bible belter.  It was McCain who created the qualification that needed to be met.  After his qualifications were stated, they were endorsed by Karl Rove.  Both Rove and McCain abandoned their pre-stated principles for a political stunt.

Sarah Palin is nothing more than a political stunt that has people guessing.  We will know soon enough what she is made of.

Sarah Palin is nothing more than a political stunt that has people guessing.

Camille Paglia certainly didn’t think so.  Neither did Hillary who has steadfastly refused to attack Palin.  The Obama campaign is back on its heels as Palin shoved Obama off the front pages and out of the limelight ess than 24 hours after his acceptance speech extravaganza.  The money is pouring in to the McCain/Palin coffers - from Chicago of all places - while team Obama is suddenly learning what a budget deficit is.  The polls all show a surge from McCain/Palin, including a 15 point advantage among independents in one poll, the very blue-collar, middle American undecided voters in fly-over country that Obama haughtily disparage only 6 weeks ago.

A stunt?  Hardly.  Its the shrewdest choice of a VP running mate in the last 100 years, at least.  Meanwhile, team Obama, including Joe Biden, is reeling, stumbling all over itself, looking for some way out like a Lehman Brothers stockholder.

Actually, Hannitized, it’s the Constitution that sets the qualifications to be met; in which case all four candidiates are emminently qualified.

If that is the case PP, McCain and Rove should be much wiser before they go about re-creating their own standards.  Because both of them turned their back on their principles (as if they had any) to play this political hand.

In fact, I heard on FoxNews today that some political analyst said that if Obama had picked Hillary, McCain would not have picked Palin.  Which shows McCain is playing chess to win the presidency, he is not serious about picking the right person for the job as much as he is serious about winning.

dougee on September 10, 2008 at 07:54 pm

The question you should be asking yourselves is why is Sarah Palin so at odds with McCains positions?

“We’re not going to spend $3 million of your tax dollars to study the DNA of bears in Montana,” McCain has said during this year’s campaign, referring to a study he’s mocked for years of whether grizzlies need to keep their status as an endangered species.

Palin, meanwhile, has requested $3.2 million to be spent in part researching the “genetics of harbor seals,” in one of the state’s many requests for federal funding of research into Alaska’s fauna.”

Heh!

Instead of asking why is she so for ear-marks she pretends to be against, you have BAT fawning all over his made up maiden to impress himself to sleep.  Yawn!

An in regards to liberal BS.

More liberal BS:

Nonetheless, for reasons best known to herself and Sen. McCain’s speechwriters, she made this claim, despite the fact that she requested for Alaska, and received, more earmarks per capita than any other state. If she had not claimed to be a big earmark reformer, I’d just think she had been doing her job. As it is, it’s just more of the same charade.

As it has been pointed out elsewhere on this blog Joe Biden suffers much from “The Gift of Gaffe”.

IMO,(and this is only a guess) this meeting with the Clintons tomorrow will not be about getting Obama a new running mate but more about getting a new fund raising team as evidenced by this quote. http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/obama_show_me_the_money/

Pushing a fund-raiser later this month, a finance staff member sent a sharply worded note last week to Illinois members of its national finance committee, calling their recent efforts “extremely anemic.”

It just seems to me that if a VP nominee would be replaced simply because he or she were not bringing in as many votes as they were expected to, then it would happen in just about every election.
But you can’t argue that, even top level, campaign personnel don’t get discarded like an old pair of socks the moment the going gets rough.
