Biden Flip Flops On McCain Ad
Earlier tonight I posted video of Joe Biden telling Katie Couric that he thought the ad mocking McCain for not being able to send email was “terrible.” (McCain can’t use a computer because of injuries to his hand he sustained in Vietnam). Now, just hours after the interview, Biden has issued a statement retracting his comments, saying that he made them before he’d actually seen the ad.
I was asked about an ad I’d never seen, reacting merely to press reports. As I said right then, I knew there was nothing intentionally personal in the criticism of Senator McCain’s views which look backwards not forwards and are out of touch with the new economic challenges we face today. Having now reviewed the ad, it is even more clear to me that given the disgraceful tenor of Senator McCain’s ads and their persistent falsehoods, his campaign is in no position to criticize, especially when they continue to distort Barack’s votes on an issue as personal as keeping kids safe from sexual predators.
Here’s the video of the interview again:
Does anyone actually believe that when Biden said the ad was “terrible” he hadn’t actually seen it? If he hadn’t seen the ad, why did he assume that it was terrible? What’s particularly humorous to me was Biden’s comments in the interview suggesting that this ad wasn’t approved by Obama. Meaning that the “I’m Barack Obama and I approve of this message” ad at the end doesn’t really mean anything.
This isn’t Biden saying he was mistaken, or that he misspoke. This is Biden covering his hind end after what was undoubtedly a heated phone call with Obama.
And apparently the Obama/Biden campaign thinks we’re stupid enough to go along with this retraction.
