Biden Says Crying Baby Will Have To Pay For Tax Cuts
“That’s another trillion dollars in tax cuts over the next ten years going to the top 1% of American taxpayers,” Vice President Joe Biden said today referring to proposed Republican tax cuts. And when a baby started cying, Biden quipped: “I don’t blame her for crying. She is going to inherit it. She’s going to pay for it. That’s one smart baby.”
When I was growing up and learning about budgets and spending and the way our government worked, I was told that the government spent on certain things (police officers, roads, etc.) and taxed citizens to pay for that spending.
In modern political parlance, which bears a striking resemblance to Orwell’s doublespeak, it’s not spending that must be paid for but rather tax cuts. Which is a view born of the idea that all wealth belongs to the government first, and what we have after taxation amounts to spending by the government.
That should be a very scary, very controversial view yet it’s tossed out routinely by liberal politicians like Biden all the time.
It’s deficit spending – expenditures above and beyond what our government receives from us in tax revenues – that our children will be paying for. But politicians like Biden would rather put the blame with we citizens, rather than spendthrift politicians, for not giving the government enough money.
