Berkeley: “Peace And Justice Commission” Wants Bush Adviser Charged With War Crimes

You have to wonder just what planet these people are from. Just guessing, but I’d say it would the the Planet of the Deluded Self Righteous Leftie Idiots:

Berkeley’s City Council will delve into national policy again next week when it votes whether to demand the United States charge Berkeley resident and former Bush adviser John Yoo with war crimes.
Yoo, a tenured professor at UC Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law, wrote the memos offering legal justification for torture while he worked for the White House from 2001 to 2003.
The five measures attacking Yoo were drafted by the city’s Peace and Justice Commission, the same group that recommended that the city tell the Marines they were “unwelcome intruders.”

As much as I despise these miserable wretches, I’d actually pay good money to watch them as they come up with stuff like this. Round trip ticket to Berkeley: $400. Food and lodging for a few days: About the same.
Watching legend-in-their-own-mind moonbats writhe and froth with self righteousness as they pursue their notion of justice: PRICELESS!

Rugby Reader, do you mean the same exact lies the Clinton administration was pimping us in the late 90′s? Google it you phony jerk! (democrats on saddams wmds) I suppose the video you will see is a right wing conspiracy.

    Dear Friends,

The human-induced predicament visible in our time to the family of humanity makes one thing clear: people with eyes to see, ears to hear and no speech impediments have got to speak out loudly, clearly and often now. Silence, the greatest power the rich and powerful possess, cannot be allowed to prevail. The reckless way a few people with wealth and power maintain a “golden” silence, one that protects their greed, gluttony and hoarding, is dangerous and cannot longer be endured because a good enough future for our children and coming generations is being mortgaged and threatened by these leading elders in my not-so-great generation.

Regardless of whether or not other human beings choose to accept the “answers” to one question, I believe we must ask ourselves, “Can we teach one another to live within limits?”

It is necessary, I suppose, for human beings to recognize and affirm human limits

    and Earth’s limitations

To do otherwise and, by so doing, choose willfully and foolishly to ignore the practical requirements of biophysical reality runs the risk of putting life as we know it and our planetary home as a fit place for human habitation in peril, even in these early years of Century XXI.

The Berkeley folks, and anyone that is really gung-ho about prosecuting Bush etal on war crimes charges, strike me as pretty goofy, but I have a hard time seeing how Bush etal aren’t war criminals under the kind of international criminal law framework that motivated the Nuremberg Trials.

Does that mean that Bush etal should be prosecuted? No, it could just as easily mean that we were wrong to institute the Nuremberg Trials. But I think it has to mean one of those two things. Yet I keep looking for conservative pundits/intellectuals to repudiate Nuremberg, and haven’t found anything.

I spent two years of my life, in and around the environs of the San Francisco Bay Area.

It’s a culturally fascinating place. High on diversity and even higher on all sort of drugs. But, unfortunately, extreme diversity, coupled with extreme drug use and social depravity offers very little to someone with a world view that assuming personal responsibility and personal hygiene would be paramount to improving your personal lot in life.

Buy me ticket to SFO, I would go tomorrow, but I would be ready to come home next weekend.

Well, Bush did mislead the US into an unnecessary invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation

“Sovereign nation” is a bit of a stretch. There is a legal argument over whether totalitarian states may be considered “sovereign” when most of the people are being ruled against their will.

    Rugby:

had NOTHING to do with the attacks of 9/11/2001that posed no threat to the US,

Au contraire. Iraq was a state sponsoring terrorism that was planning a major attack on Israel and perhaps Europe. 9/11 was the result of state-sponsored terrorism (the main reason it happened was because the terrorists had a safe haven so they could plan missions of this scale).

…and possesses vast amounts of oil.

Which means it’s of extreme strategic importance.

I see Pigrim hasn’t grown out of his desire to wake up pissed off and bitter everyday for the sake of…..being pissed off and bitter.

This post is boring and makes no counter argument that would suggest that you had one to make.

Why don’t you do me a favor and see if you can articulate why it is not ok for a few people who object to Yoo’s case for torture. Then, and only then would this post be partially interesting and worth while.

“As much as I despise these miserable wretches.”

You are only expressing an opinion probably to be held by 90 percent of the American public outside the broadcast area of the local NPR stations in that area.

They are wretches, they are despicable human beings, they are societies that have forsaken a national challenge of keeping the armed forces in their confines. They should be forced to repel the next enemy that wants to invade their territory with copies of of the Communist Manifesto and the 2008 democrat party platform.

We have not won anything in Iraq, and we, as well as the rest of the world, are less safe because of Bush’s lies and criminal actions.

    Hannitized:

It’s not necessary to explain pointing and laughing a a fool. But, since you insist.

It’s simple – here we have a self appointed “Commission” that has somehow elevated itself to a level that is far beyond their abilities in order to pat itself on the back and convince their surrounding clowns just how much good they are doing.

This is the same group that wanted the Marines out of town, remember?

They’re jusy shoutying at what they perceice to be the devil. Just noise and show for their own benefit.

Clear it up any for you?

Rugby Reader – Well, Bush did mislead the US into an unnecessary invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation that posed no threat to the US…

Oh, you mean the “sovereignty” that rested entirely with a one Mr. Saddam Hussein? The same guy who tried to assassinate a sitting US President? That guy and country?

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am…

AR-15: You’re spitting in the wind talking to the BDS impaired! Though Clinton, Gore and many prominent Democrats told the same “lies” about Saddam’s weapons and one of the avowed goals of the Clinton administration was “regime change in Iraq”, the BDS crowd will never forgive W for actually doing what Billy Jeff Clinton only jawboned about.

  • socialistsexgod19

GOOD 4 THEM! the sooner we get 1 american tried for war crimes, the sooner we can try others for atrocities such as the CIA-backed coup against Arbenz in guatemala or our gov’ts clandestine support for the contras and get some accountability back into the world view of ameicans. by the way, self-righteous is an adjective better used to describe america’s current foreign policy and international support of capitalism, in the notion that ‘everyone in the world should be forced to have what we have, regardless of their preferences’. kudos to berkley if they pull this shit off (which they won’t)

  • Halatbis

This is a way to run (?) a country? Any group or faction that does not agree with the current or preceding administration will bring criminal charges against said officials? What in hell are we doing to our country? Our political people are many things, but they are not slow learners–they will get into office and not take any risks of any kind, I do not feel comforted by that thought. It is dangerous for America and dangerous for freedom everywhere.

In time, Yoo and Addington will be charged, and convicted of war crimes. No doubt in my mind.

We’ve won in Iraq, and we’re safer because of it.
