Berg Speech At Convention To Be Delayed Or Canceled?

Unfortunately for Republicans, they scheduled their national convention in Florida in hurricane season. Not the smartest move and now, thanks to Hurricane Isaac, the Republicans won’t be holding their convention at all on Monday. They’ll convene on Monday as planned but then immediately recess until Tuesday.

That means speakers like Ann Romney, Mike Huckabee and Rep. Rick Berg, who is running for the Senate in one of the closely watched congressional races in the country, who were scheduled to speak that day will either be delayed or canceled.

The Berg campaign had made a big deal out of the speaking slot at the convention. Earlier this year both Democrat Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp and Democrat House candidate Pam Gulleson announced that they wouldn’t be attending their party’s national convention. They claimed scheduling conflicts, but beyond the spin the reason is because they don’t want to be associated with their far-left party while trying to win elections in a Republican-dominated state.

Berg had hoped to be able to contrast Heitkamp’s decision to skip the convention with his high-profile spot at the GOP convention, but it looks like that may not happen.
