BBC Admits To Photo Staging?

Hmm…

When Um Ali Mihdi returned to her home in the southern Lebanese city of Bint Jbeil two days ago, she found a 1,000lb (450kg) Israeli bomb lying unexploded in her living room.
The shell is huge, bigger than the young boy pushed forward to stand reluctantly next to it while we get our cameras out and record the scene for posterity.

And just who, might I ask, might be pushing a young boy forward to stand next to a large, unexploded Israeli bomb?
Couldn’t be Hezbollah propagandists trying to manufacture more sympathetic media coverage for themselves, could it?
I think that would be a safe bet. And note that after the boy is positioned next to the unexploded bomb the journalists on the scene are all too happy to snatch up their cameras and begin clicking away. For, you know, posterity’s sake.

I don't quite see how this form of photo "staging" is substantially different from Rosenthal's "staging" in his famous Iwo Jima photograph. They're both done to provide greater strength to the ideas the photo is trying to communicate–the only difference is that Rosenthal's message is positive. Both photographers are doing the same thing, roughly.

If they were the same the flag pole on Iwo Jima would have been planted squarely in the middle of a Japanese child with a few teddy bears strategically placed to maximize the impact.

The Rosenthal photo wasn't staged. The military commander decided to put up a bigger flag. Rosenthal happened on the scene and snapped the picture.

The idea that Rosenthal staged the photo is a myth that has been perpetuated for far too long by ill-informed people like you, Davey.
