Barack Obama: We Can’t Just Live Our Lives As We Want To And Expect Other Countries To Like Us

Apparently France doesn’t like your thermostat setting.

“We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK,” Obama said.

Discussion question: What part of that statement has anything to do with freedom?  Are we not a free nation?  Why should we care what some other country thinks of what we drive?  Or what we eat?

Asked in all seriousness, “Why not?”

I can’t wait for John McCain to jump on the bandwagon.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Whistler:  You’ll have to, because he won’t.

And you apparently overlook the utterly egregious implication’s of Obama’s statement.

Why would you waste your time with a snide and unfounded comment about mcCain when Barack Obama has just revealed his core, global-socialist nature?

Do you not understand what he will do if he wins the White House??

Or do you actually prefer that to a McCain presidency?

Boy, the left really doesn’t like to tell you how to live your life, does it. They love to complain about “just stay out of my bedroom”....will do, you just stay out of my wallet, my fridge, my thermostat, my driveway,....

Hey Barry, if you want to consider us to be the western annex of the EU, don’t just do it halfway with the socialist dictates. We want someone to provide us with a military free-ride, we want a minimum of 6 weeks vacation a year with flexible attendance and near invincibility from being fired (you can suffer the consequences of high unemployment, stunted economic growth, lowered standard of living, etc.), you know, the usual cradle-to-grave entitlement mentality. That also gives us a chance to sit back and bitch and complain about the new superpower that takes our place (nature abhors a vacuum)as the evildoers of the world. And just think, our consumption as a nation will fall through the floor as a result of all that lack of production and achievement. Bonus.

Last week he was 6 points behind, now he’s 16.

I’m thinking that Barack will change the saying that you can’t beat something with nothing.

For the record McCain and Obama have stayed roughly the same from last week on the gallup poll.

Obama is simply illustrating his Marxist thinking.  To them, the size of the pie is fixed, and so if Americans use more, then everybody else gets less.  It’s wrong, of course, since we can expand the pie by applying capital to labor and resources, but the Marxists simply ignore that fact.  Nothing new here.
He also gets it from the church of black liberation theology; to quote Rev. Wright: “White folks greed leaves the world in need.” Birds of a feather.

Rob,

I don’t necessarily mean to quibble, but Obama’s actual quote carries a more serious implication than whether other countries “like” us or not as your title suggests.  As I read this,

We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK.

it seems to me that Obama is foolishly implying that those “other countries” should have some authority over our actions beyond mere cursory approval or disapproval.  I think once again Mr. Obama is demonstrating a bit more of his basic core belief system (compliments of Rev. Wright and wife Michelle?) than might, on reflection, be considered prudent.  The more I see and hear of Barack Obama, the less I want him for my president… even if he was qualified for the office.

I wonder if Wendell Wilkie has an honored place in the Obama family library?

It is at the heart of the Democrat-Socialist Party that: (1) They, through their leaders, should be able to dictate everything we say, think and do; or, they will manufacture laws to force us by threat of imprisonment for any act of disobedience to their liberal ideology. (2) That we are no longer a sovereign nation, but a state within a global, all nations government. (3) All Americans must be made to do penance and to make many, painful sacrifices in our lifestyle for this country’s past prosperity and for being a world power. To them, we (you and I) have sinned against the world by succeeding and they will make us pay dearly for that success!

You ain’t seen nothing yet until we have POTUS Obama and a filibuster-proof Congress. Buy a lot of vaseline to grease your behinds because they intend to treat every American as their bitch!

Obama is sounding more and more like a communist every day.  They want to control every thought, action and job each person takes.  Other countries have been invaded and occupied, we might be occupied and defeated from within.

"Yes we can”

likwidshoe on May 19, 2008 at 08:44 pm

The real question. Who is going to make all these decisions? Who will decide how much food each “citizen” receives? How much heat they are allowed in their “residence”? How often “citizens” are allowed to travel, and how far? Will we set up the Ministry of Production? Will it be an elected office, or appointed?

we won’t have to worry about it much longer if the oil companies keep getting richer in the billons not in the millons of dollars, i saw today that oil is
$129.00 a gallon. how much more will we take? the price at the pumps should not be over $2.00 a gallon
and every time the deisel goes up so does food and about every thing else. we need to used our oil right hear and quit sending it over seas, our taxes paid for the alaska oil line and it all goes to japan. this has no comon sence. like our jobs going over seas the big business and the oil companies owns
our country because they own our government. how many out there knows every time the oil goes up we take a cut in pay. obama won’t stop it, none of the canadates will stop it. donald keith manka i would.

keith_glory2 on May 20, 2008 at 10:59 am

Oil companies DON’T own oil fields by and large.

Most of the money for “ownership” goes to government.  How about a windfall profits tax on the government and make them return the money to the people?

...and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK.

Who cares if they are going to “say OK”?

Wealth is created.

This simple truth will not be understood by those who don’t “say OK” nor will it ever be understood by Obama.

Whatever happened to “Yes we can!” The ugly reality is that Obama is all about limitations.

well, I have to say that probably the most relevant comment that I have read on this thread has been about us being 6 years old again.
All in all, though I have to say that it is a little disconcerting that so many people are calling Obama a socialist like it is some evil political orientation.  It seems to me that this comment is more fascist than anything.
Look, let’s not continue to label each other as conservative, republican, democrat, socialist.  It sets up argument and I am not so sure that (at least for me) that is useful in terms of open discussion.  you could probably label me if you must as independent.
I like the spirit of Karl Marx/Engels especially during that historical period.  I am not against socialized welfare if we didnt sacrifice quality and choice.  I am not “prowar”.  I think war is horrific, but I am also not naive enough to believe that Bush lied or that it might not end the war sooner if we continue a surge.
I just hate both of he candidates to be honest (lol) (see southpark episode on douche vs. turd.  It probably best sums up my feelings on elections and politics in general) Mccain seems like an asshole and an idiot (I mean that joke about Iran.  C’mon even if you don’t find it someone offensive are you really willing to vote for a guy that would actually say that.  Whatever happened to thinking something and not actually saying it?) They both have been pushing the fight on global warming.  I mean can’t we act like adults and see that scientists and statistics do not prove this.  It is very controversial whether it even exists let alone if it is man-made.
As a realist though the most important issues to me are national security and the economy.  I think that Mccain would be better for national security (see a few good men and jack nicholson’s speech while on the stand) and think that a republican (uh oh there I go labeling!) would probably be better for us way down the line.  I don’t know though.  While I understand both sides to the abortion issue, I know that I’d hate to see abortion made illegal.  God knows we have all made stupid mistakes when we were young.  SO I guess I am just rambling.  Maybe I haven’t really said anything remarkable but just felt like typing I guess…
