Barack Obama Tries To Change His Story On The Flag Pin

Personally, I think the flag pin story is pretty dumb.  But as dumb as it is, Obama lying about the issue is still inexcusable.  And he’s doing just that now, and calling the people who accurately quoted him on the original issue liars to boot.

This is what Obama said initially about his decision not to wear an American flag lapel pin:

You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin. Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest. Instead, I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism.

This is what he’s saying now:

Obama then referred to the time last October, when a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, TV reporter asked him why he didn’t wear a flag pin.

“Then I was asked about this in Iowa,” Obama said. “And somebody said ‘Why don’t you wear a flag pin?’ I said, well, sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. I said, although I will say that sometimes I notice that they’re people who wear flag pins but they don’t always act patriotic. And I was specifically referring to politicians, not individuals who wear flag pins, but politicians who you see wearing flag pins and then vote against funding for veterans, saying we can’t afford it.”

First it was “I won’t wear the pin because it’s just a substitute for patriotism.” Now it’s “sometimes I wear it and sometimes I don’t.”

Personally, I don’t really care if Obama wears the stupid pin or not.  But I do care that he’s such a self-serving, say-anything-to-get-elected, power-hungry, lying politician that he can’t even walk a straight line on an issue as trivial as this.

This is a politician’s “lie of convenience.” They all do it, but only get called on them when they’re being “pressed” by the media.

There are many reasons for me not to vote for Obama, but most noticeable is his “thin skin” for criticism.

This wimp just can’t take it. If he ever was elected he would spend all his time objecting.

Forget it, this guy is a pussy.

Sounds like your everyday politician to me. Remember Ronnie during the Iran-Contra hearings: “I can’t recall.” Now was that lying under oath? Or was it the Alzheimer’s kicking in?

Watashiwa, I love how you liberals always result to the tu quoqe argument to defend schmucks like Obama.

As though anything Ronald Reagan did has any bearing on what Obama is doing now.

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.

watashiwa,

I believe your knowledge of the events you describe is, to put it charitably, faulty.  President Ronald Reagan did not testify at the Iran-Contra hearings.  Ed Meese, Bud McFarland, John Poindexter and Oliver North were pretty much unflappable, as I recall, despite Democrat Counsel Arthur Liman’s televised theatrics.  But I do not believe Mr. Reagan testified as you described.

w, you’re confused as usual; President Reagan didn’t say that, but it was Hillary’s “go to” line during all her appearances during the Whitewater hearings.

As far as wearing the pin is concerned, Obama wants us to elect him President of the United State, but can’t be bothered to wear an American flag pin on his lapel to show his loyalty to this country.  Furthermore, he made a statement by removing it, especially with his connection to such divisive elements as black liberation theology and the Weather Underground, not to mention Marxists on his staff and the Che Guevara poster in one of his headquarters.  His loyalty to the founding principles of this country are being questioned, and for very good reason, IMO.

I’m your huckleberry.  I will give you another response Rob, but it won’t matter, you will dismiss and ridicule it anyway.  So quite pretending you are looking for a good argument, your not.  Your only point is to smear Obama, by calling him a liar.

It’s an easy thing to do when you ignore what he says, misconstrue his meanings or outright lie about what he said.  Then, you can say anything you want about Obama and we are left with the task of having to proving to you that you are either a) stupid or b) intentionally mischaracterizing what he said.

Which of those two options are you willing to accept?

On Thursday, his campaign issued a statement: “We all revere the flag, but Senator Obama believes that being a patriot is about more than a symbol. It’s about fighting for our veterans when they get home and speaking honestly with the American people about this disastrous war.”

In short, Obama has been saying this from day one that he wore the pin before he took it off.  How can you misconstrue that to mean something different, unless you are stupid?

If I were you Rob, I would opt for (a) as to choose any other alternative would be dishonest.
