Barack Obama On The White Man’s Greed

Here’s that unity candidate you’ve been hearing so much about telling us about the evils of the white man’s greed.

That’s from the audio book version of Barack Obama’s Dreams from My Father.  Here’s an excerpt:

[T]he pastor [Rev. Jeremiah “God Damn America” Wright] described going to a museum and being confronted by a painting title Hope.

“The painting depicts a harpist,” Revernd Wright explained, “a woman who at first glance appears to be sitting atop a great mountaintop. Untill you take a closer look and see that the woman is bruised and bloodied, dressed in tattered rags, the harp reduced to a single frayed string. Your eye is then drawn down to the scene below, down to the valley below, where everywhere are the ravages of famine, the drumbeat of war, a world groaning under strife and deprivation.

It is this world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, where white folks’ greed runs a world in need, aprtheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere ... That’s the world! On which hope sits.”

And so it went, a meditation on a fallen world. While the boys next to me doodled on their church bulletin, Reverend Wright spoke of Sharpesville and Hiroshima, the callousness of policy makers in the White House and in the State House.

Note that Obama, who has thrown Rev. Wright under the bus since the writing of this book, doesn’t disagree with Rev. Wright’s sermon at all in this narrative.  In fact, according to the book, he weeps at the end of it.

But isn’t alluding to “white man’s greed” a bit...racist?  Sort of like, oh I don’t know, Jews being blamed for the post World War I hardships in Germany?

And here’s more observations on this book written by the supposedly “post-racial” politics candidate:

Obama probably did not think about the presidential office possibility when he wrote the book “Dreams From My Father” as it is laden with racist categorizations. Obama categorizes people according to skin tone, as some are olive, pale, walnut, etc. Almost to the point of being laughable, if it was not so pathetic and scary. The last person to be that race obsessed in power started freakin’ WWII and murdered millions of innocent people.

My husband and I sat down one night and began counting how many times Obama used racial categorization or referred to race in his book Dreams From My Father. There are racial references made 179 times in the first 110 pages.

We got sick of counting at page 110 and sick of reading Obama’s racial trashing.

Very divisive stuff for a guy campaigning on unity.

In other words, its bullshit. Just come right out and say it, you don’t know enough about anything to lie, so you simply bullshit your way through.

robert108,

Nunez even knowing about, and being focused on, designer shoes qualifies him for metrosexual status in my book, so what I said was the truth as I see it. [Emphasis mine]

Well, since you now know about Hugo Boss, then by your logic, you are now a metrosexual. Now, let me defend you because I don’t think your a ‘metrosexual’ as your logic expresses.

Simply knowing about a certain brand of shoes or knowing which shoemaker make an excellent product is not ‘gay’ as you imply onto yourself.

Nunez on July 6, 2008 at 07:50 pm

My anecdote are not to reveal facts, but to reveal a truth more general than the brief tale itself
and to delineate a character trait in such a light that it strikes in a flash of insight to their very essence.

More self-serving bullshit.  You made declarative statements about me that aren’t true, and you used my mother to smear me.  You are beneath contempt.
You can’t cover your initial lies with more lies; won’t work.
The only insight here is into your sick mind. Sorry you got so twisted by your life experiences that you project your sickness on others.

r108:

Nunez’ story was a lie.  That means everything in it is a lie.

That’s a lie!

Your statement is illogical. Allow me to demonstrate how with this story, written by The Todd:

Yesterday I hopped to Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun, on a pogo stick. I met a Martian, who told me that Topeka was the capitol of Kansas. Before I fell asleep, I learned that Derek Jeter was elected to start the 2008 All-star Game.

Now, that story is a lie--I did not hop to Mars on a pogoo stick yesterday. Applying Robert108’s logic, that would mean everything in the story is a lie. This is not the case--what can I say, Michael Young got hosed!

thetodd on July 6, 2008 at 07:51 pm

thetodd has resorted to Gettier cases?

Case I

Smith has applied for a job, but, it is claimed, has a justified belief that “Jones will get the job”. He also has a justified belief that “Jones has 10 coins in his pocket”. Smith therefore (justifiably) concludes (by the rule of the transitivity of identity) that “the man who will get the job has 10 coins in his pocket”.

In fact, Jones does not get the job. Instead, Smith does. However, as it happens, Smith (unknowingly and by sheer chance) also had 10 coins in his pocket. So his belief that “the man who will get the job has 10 coins in his pocket” was justified and true. But it does not appear to be knowledge.

Case II

Smith, it is claimed by the hidden interlocutor, has a justified belief that “Jones owns a Ford”. Smith therefore (justifiably) concludes (by the rule of disjunction introduction) that “Jones owns a Ford, or Brown is in Barcelona”, even though Smith has no knowledge whatsoever about the location of Brown.

In fact, Jones does not own a Ford, but by sheer coincidence, Brown really is in Barcelona. Again, Smith had a belief that was true and justified, but not knowledge.

Wow. I don’t know if that adds to your case, bro.

robert108,

Are you unable to back up the claim that Ken has made?

I will pay you $300 via Paypal if you can some how prove that you correctly read what he wrote. I’ll even let Rob or some other neutral party to be the judge of it. And here’s the kicker, if I win, all you have to do is admit you were wrong. You don’t have to pay me anything.

You’ve said its your ‘responsibility’ refute for the Truth. Now you have your chance. How does a man that has all the Truth inside his mind, refute Ken’s challenged that I did not say that you looked at the woman’s shoe as you have said above?

Mistakes are a great educator when one is honest enough to admit them and willing to learn from them.

If you read thetodd’s counterexample to r108… it amounts to a naive, crappy Gettier case. The stuff following this:

Allow me to demonstrate how with this story, written by The Todd:

see above. ‘gettier cases’ refer to an epistemology paper from the 60s. three pages. brutal. infamous. again, see the link i provided above and compare the two cases i quoted to thetodd’s argument about knowledge from luck.

(...if any of you actually are interested in knowledge and logic)

Suppose you’re driving through rural Pennsylvania. As a matter of fact, the region you’re driving through contains a lot of fake barns: mere wooden fronts that just look like barns from the road. But you don’t know this, and have no reason to suspect it. You look off to your left and you see something that looks like a barn, so you believe “That’s a barn.” In fact, it is a barn. It’s one of the few barns in the region. But you’re just lucky. If you had looked at a fake barn instead, you would have believed that it was a barn.
In this case, it seems that your belief that you’re driving by a barn is justified or reasonable. After all, it looks like a barn; and you’ve never heard about a region full of fake barns. And your belief is also true. But we’re reluctant to say that you know that you’re driving by a barn.

Cases of this sort are known as Gettier cases, after the philosopher Edmund Gettier. Before Gettier, philosophers thought that knowledge was equivalent to justified true belief. That is:

You know that P iff:

(i) P is true,

(ii) you believe that P,

and (iii) you are justified in believing P (you have good evidence for P).

But then Gettier came along and presented examples in which the subject has a justified true belief which, intuitively, fails to count as knowledge. The fake barn case we just discussed is an example of that sort. (That particular example was created by Carl Ginet). Here’s another Gettier case:

You have a justified belief that someone in your office owns a Ford. And as it happens it’s true that someone in your office owns a Ford. However, your evidence for your belief all concerns Nogot, who as it turns out owns no Ford. Your belief that someone in the office owns a Ford is true because someone else in the office owns a Ford. Call this guy Haveit. Since all your evidence concerns Nogot and not Haveit, it seems, intuitively, that you don’t know that someone in your office owns a Ford. So you don’t know, even though you have a justified belief that someone owns a Ford, and, as it turns out, this belief happens to be true.

These cases are counter-examples to the claim that justified true belief is sufficient for knowledge.

1.  Todd’s response was not a “counter-example”.  A counter-example is an exception to a proposed or given rule.

2.  Neither is Todd’s response a gettier case, or more accurately a “gettier problem”, since he is not countering a preconcieved precept, fact or belief.

3.  Todd is simply demonstrating that while A relates to B and C and A is found to be false, B and C remain true.

I never said any such thing.  I have said it’s my responsibility to refute lies.
I’m not debating about shoes; your sick personal fantasy was about shoes, or something, and I have no responsibility for that.  I’m sorry you got all hurt that I identified you as a metrosexual.  I know you “guys” are very sensitive.

Well, since you now know about Hugo Boss, then by your logic, you are now a metrosexual.

Not my logic at all, so you lie again.  It’s your twisted misunderstanding of logic.  I never said that simply knowing about shoes made Nunez a metrosexual; he pulled that example, where some chick talked about his shoes, and he got offended, out of his own history.  I don’t care about designer shoes; he obviously thinks they are significant.
I know if you had a real argument, you would make it.  Instead, you are grasping at shoes. (pun intended)

Just to indulge the counter-examples that have come up, here are a few more.

Nunez’ story was a lie.  That means everything in it is a lie.

since it contains absolutely no truth

This means all presuppositions are also false:
Robert is not his name.
robert108 is not a man.
robert108 can’t hear.
robert108 doesn’t know how to speak English.
robert108 isn’t an old man.
robert108 doesn’t wear shoes.
A woman can’t be able to be named Ashley
Ashley is not a woman.
etc..

robert108,

It’s a good idea for to continue to ignore Ken’s challenge, better to ignore your mistake than being a MAN who backs his words and shows some personal integrity. The more you ignore, the more you reveal your true character than the facade you try portray on this blog.

You can’t possibly know that. As it turns out, Sparkie has a real argument, but I keep destroying his computer just before he can post it. So you lied when you said he would make a real argument if he had one.

thetodd on July 6, 2008 at 09:25 pm

Nunez: I realize you would abandon your bullshit personal attacks and make a real argument, if you had one.  Projecting your crappy fantasies on me is not an argument, no matter how you twist and spin.
Of course, I recognize this entire threadjack by you is a pathetic attempt to distract from Obama’s racist statement and racist/Marxist core beliefs.
No amount of bullshit you spread will cover that up.

Do you know what “if” means?  When you and Sparkie resort to personal attack, it reveals your lack of valid argument.  A personal attack is not a valid argument.  Educate yourself.

Yes, continue to ignore the fact that Obamoid uses race for his political and personal gain, numbnuts. Just keep squealing and screeching about how you got called for your bullshit. That will stop people from paying attention to your boy Obamoid.
