Barack Obama Flip-Flopped On Iraq?

Barack Obama in 2004:

“The failure of the Iraqi state would be a disaster. It would dishonor the 900-plus men and women who have already died.”

Barack Obama today:

Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda.

A precipitous withdrawal of American troops would absolutely put the Iraqi state in jeopardy, yet Obama doesn’t seem to care about that so much now as he did back in 2004.

It’s amazing what a little political ambition will do for your principles.

I’m confused. What’s his pastor think about foreign policy?

Have you ever changed your ideas about something that you once thought. You know we don’t need troops in Iraq. The only reason the “surge” is working is because the Iraqis know that a political solution is the best way to bring people back to Baghdad. There are parts of Iraq where you would not believe there was a war going on. It is so peaceful. And now we just sent a Marine batallion back for the 5th time in a row. Face it No Americans. No problems.
