Bankrupt Federal Government Looking To Hire Cartoonists For “Humor In The Workplace” Program

Sure. Why not. It’s not like we’ve got a dismal budget deficit problem and an exploding national debt or anything.

This is a sources sought notice and not a request for quotations. The purpose of this announcement is to seek qualified contractors with the capability to provide presentations for The Department of Treasury, Bureau of the Public Debt (BPD), Management Meeting with experience in meeting the objectives as described herein.
The Contractor shall conduct two, 3-hour, Humor in the Workplace programs that will discuss the power of humor in the workplace, the close relationship between humor and stress, and why humor is one of the most important ways that we communicate in business and office life. Participants shall experience demonstrations of cartoons being created on the spot. The contractor shall have the ability to create cartoons on the spot about BPD jobs. The presenter shall refrain from using any foul language during the presentation. This is a business environment and we need the presenter to address a business audience.
Upon completion of the course, participants shall be able to:
• Understand the importance and power of humor in the workplace in a responsible manner
• How to use talents in a creative way that adds humor to everyday experiences
• Alleviate stress in home and the office
• Know how and why humor is important to communication
• Improve work-place relationships
• Prevent burn-out

I’m all for laughter, and if any group of people need to learn how to laugh it’s federal bureaucrats, but even so. Is it appropriate – especially now in the midst of a national fiscal disaster – for the taxpayers to be footing the bill for laughter lessons?

Next thing, BHO will be hiring a Humor CZAR, I think Minnesota just elected a good candidate for that job. We don’t need Franken representing us Minnesotans in the senate.

“A funny thing happened on the way to the largest deficit in the history of the United States…”

Franken is yo busy watching reruns of Perry Mason episodes so he can distract the Sotomayer grilling process.

    Hope for change.

I would recommend the Blue Collar Team, but they won’t take the job, they have more class than that.

Isn’t the Obama administration a big enough joke already?

    Rob,

Is it merely karma that your post about “humor in the workplace” sits immediately atop the latest buffoonery from VP Joe Biden?

Nothing these clowns do now surprise me any more.

Wouldn’t ya know it’d be Geithner’s Treasury Department.

I watched some of Hank Paulson’s testimony at lunch today. No bull shit, no excuses, just straightforward here’s what I said… here’s what I did… and here’s why. And when I thought about it, i was amazed that OBama couldn’t manage to find anyone in the economics and finance realm with Paulson’s combination of knowledge, experience, and integrity.

If Tim Geithner wants his department employees to be amused, he ought to give them a few days off and let them see their department from outside the confines of their office cubicles.

Looks like the stimulus finally created a job.

  • Bat One

The only “jobs” the stimulus has created are government jobs, which only detract from productivity and wealth creation, not foster them.

People on the Left simply do not understand that money and wealth are not the same thing.

stress? how can you have any stress when you know youll never be fired?

if they want everyone to relax, they should take a trip to vegas, get loaded and hire hookers for everyone. everyone will be flying home with a BIG smile (well… and maybe aids).

  • Brent

The presenter shall refrain from using any foul language during the presentation.

Because adults are children. Oh wait, these are government employees.

This is a business environment and we need the presenter to address a business audience.

LOL! They should just hire whoever wrote this!

If this type of program has been proven do increase efficiency would you still be against it?

In order to better sell the Obama administration’s policies Robert Gibbs, White House press secretary to be replaced by this guy, http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com/2009/03/in-order-to-better-sell-obama.html

  • Edward Lunny

Isn’t that why they picked Biden ?

  • Kent B

I think it’s a great idea. The only way it could be better is if the salary was at least $2,500,00 per hour. Anything less would be an insult to the memory of Abraham Lincoln.

This is no longer. Apparently Sen Dorgan pressured them:

    http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/senator-quashes-treasurys-bid-for-humorist-2009-07-17.html

The chairman of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee quashed an effort by the Treasury Department to hire a cartoonist after the link to the job ad was posted on the Drudge Report.

Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) contacted the Treasury Department to complain after Matt Drudge’s website linked to a want ad for contractors with the “ability to create cartoons on the spot about [Bureau of the Public Debt] jobs.”

I haveNOdoubt this was done to come home and show how he is looking out for waste and saving money during election time, BUT, I don’t care, as long as it is gone

This may be a very good paying position though, hell if it takes 18 million to redo a website, think what this gig could be worth.
