Baltimore NAACP Leader Worried Convicted Mayor May Be Replaced By A White Irish Guy

And here I didn’t even think Irish discrimination existed any more.

Leaders of the Maryland NAACP, worried that a Baltimore mayor’s criminal conviction could result in the appointment of a white or Republican leader who may not fully represent the majority black and Democratic city, are asking state lawmakers to strip the governor of authority to permanently fill the office.
The request, made in a resolution adopted at a state meeting of the civil rights group last weekend, marks the first time a mainstream organization has raised questions about succession should Baltimore Mayor Dixon be convicted of any of the nine charges she faces. Dixon has been indicted for theft and perjury and the first of two trials is scheduled for early next month. …
“Our concern is who would the governor appoint?” Cheatham said. “Here you have a predominantly African-American city. What if the governor appointed somebody white? … Would he appoint someone Irish to be the mayor?”

Expecting liberal outrage? Don’t.
It’s ok to be racist, as long as you’re the right kind of racist.
Maybe, instead of worrying about what skin color or ancestry the next mayor has the folks at the NAACP should be concerned about getting a mayor who won’t commit crimes whatever his (or her) skin color.

    Hannitized,

Even if the differences you point out are distinguishable, they are not consistent with the media’s, public’s and even your use (on this site) of the terms in question.

  • HG

H, if you’re going to quote me, link to it. I never said half of the tripe you attribute to me. The other half you’ve lifted completely out of context and added your own. Why do you use the term “superior whites’? I never once mentioned either of the two words in our discussions. You got some wierd crap goin on in that head of yours. Try this. Go back and read what I actually wrote, in context, and then maybe you’ll… oh nevermind, you’re a waste of time H. Have your fun boy.

  • HG

Thanks for clearing that up Hannitized. I knew we could count on you.

And I never knew I was a racist either, nor did my black brother-in-law. He will be very surprised I’m sure considering how close we are.

Oh, and lest I forget, thanks again for mischaracterizing me, putting words in my mouth, and reading my mind.

There you have it folks. The omniscient Hannitized has spoken.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, racism is a belief or ideology that all members of each racial group possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially to distinguish it as being either superior or inferior to another racial group or racial groups. The Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines racism as a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular racial group, and that it is also the prejudice based on such a belief. The Macquarie Dictionary defines racism as: “the belief that human races have distinctive characteristics which determine their respective cultures, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule or dominate others.”

  • Mongol

Ah… hanitized, so according to your logic, state and federal officials (along with bus drivers, etc) before MLKJ were not racists, they were just practicing Institutional Discrimination? Fantastic logic, reminds me of something else I once heard that employs the same rational, where something evil practiced on mass scale is no longer evil. “The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic.” BTW the guy who said it was a hardcore libbie.

    Kenny,

You crack me up. So your opinion is supposed to trump the facts and existing definitions of various types of discrimination, intolerance and racism?

    BIKE BUBBA SAID:

["Institutional discrimination and prejudice" based on RACE differs from racism exactly how?

Hannitized, trying to split hairs like this really isn't making you look very smart. When someone discriminates based on the color of one's skin, as the NAACP is doing here, it's called "racism." Period.]

Here is a question for you Bubba; Do you think you have made yourself look smart by blurring the lines between racism and discrimination, racial or other?

Again, do a simple….fucking……google search on the definition of racism! Here, let me do it for your lazy ass:

    racâ‹…ism
/ˈreɪsɪzəm/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [rey-siz-uhm] Show IPA
    Use racism in a Sentence
    See web results for racism
    See images of racism
    –noun
    1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
    2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
    3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Now, let’s try discrimination that is not based on the doctrine that one race is superior to the other.

    disâ‹…crimâ‹…iâ‹…naâ‹…tion
/dɪˌskrɪməˈneɪʃən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [di-skrim-uh-ney-shuhn] Show IPA
    Use discrimination in a Sentence
    See web results for discrimination
    See images of discrimination
    –noun
    1. an act or instance of discriminating.
    2. treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination.

You have to be a real moron not to understand the difference between racism, and discrimination.

Rob, the abstract is not used against you based upon your driving skills, but your record. That could include DUI’s that you may get after hours, not on the job. It may include a pole hanging out of your truck that was not marked.

None of those factors indicate how well you do your job.

In Ten Myths About Affirmative Action (2003) by Scott Plous, it is argued that critics of affirmative action often rely on misconceptions.[5]

    * One can not hope to create a color blind society by practicing color blind policies since such policies put racial minorities at a disadvantage. For instance color blind seniority systems tend to favor white workers against job layoffs, since senior employees tend to be white.[6] The point being existing imbalances in representation tend to perpetuate themselves in the absence of affirmative action.

    * While a few studies claimed that affirmative action undermined the self-esteem of women and minorities,[7][8] more recent studies and public opinion polls have indicated that such is not that case[9][10][11]

    * The claim that one can not redress one form of discrimination by introducing another is a play on words that uses the same word “discrimination” to refer to two different things. Racial, ethnic or sex based discrimination is often based on unfounded, often irrational and deeply ingrained prejudices. Affirmative action is a response to a statistically observed inequity in representation, reproducibly demonstrated by social scientists in many societies with a history of discrimination.[12][13]

    * Some opponents of affirmation action believe the practice implies the preferential selection of unqualified candidates over qualified candidates. But in fact, most supporters of affirmative action oppose such preferential selection and instead prefer preferential selection among equal or comparable candidates.

    HG,

Many people who are racist don’t recognize they are racist. You should probably look into that.

For it was you who said Obama’s award was an affirmative action situation.

Why don’t you tell your brother in law you said that about Obama, and see how he responds?

And really…………….because you have a brother in law who is black somehow is supposed to change how you view whites as superior to blacks?

You yourself said affirmative action dismisses the superior whites in favor of the inferior blacks….and then you applied that to Obama.

  • studakota

There is appalling corruption in every country on the continent of Africa. There is appalling corruption in every US city controlled by Black leaders. Deny those two statements if you can, must, or will. Does the fact that even my aged eyes ,clearly, see these obominations ,and that I comment on them, make me a racist or merely a mildly observant spectator? And if that’s the case shall I be prepared to present myself at Dino’s eye shop for the extractions?

  • sayanything-1714

    Kenny,

You are too stupid for words….read the f-ing definitions.

Not wanting a white republican person to be your mayor in democratic black town is not racism, its prejudice…….and discrimination if it’s because you think they don’t understand your challenges.

Not hiring them because you hate them, or because you think your race is superior and theirs is inferior is racist.

  • sayanything-1714

This is institutional discrimination and prejudice, not racism. Has anyone even looked the word up before they attempt to use it in a sentence?

[Institutional Discrimination refers to unequal treatment that is entrenched in basic social institutions resulting in advantaging one group over another. The Indian caste system and European feudal system are historical examples of institutional discrimination.]

And racial discrimination is not a sign of racism, unless the is based upon a person believing one race is superior to the other. Sort of like when HG claimed Obama wasn’t good enough to have earned a prize, and that only whites who are superior awarded him the prize out of guilt of being superior, to get a leg up on the whites.

Discrimination can be based on race, sex, sexual orientation and obesity.

    Mongol,

I have no idea if those people were racist or not, probably were as racism was very much part of American culture. That doesn’t mean that a lawyer could have sued for racism. A lawsuit would come about as a discrimination case.

Look up the word racism and get back to me.

You guys are emotional and attribute an emotional definition to what you see. You don’t apply reason, fact or logic.

  • Mongol

    Hanni,
You are not that good for making excuses for evil. If someone states that they must make sure that the mayor is not a white guy, the judgment is being made about human abilities and capacities based on the skin color alone – racism. Hence the ” I have no idea if those people were racist or not” is absurd. If you pretend to be still confused or open minded about “divining” the motives of the statement, I have nothing further to add besides concluding that you are an intellectual coward or impotent who hides behind empty accusation of the opponents being emotional, all the while not having guts to call spade a spade. And no your preemptive calling me things that you yourself are doesn’t make you more intelligent either. In fact it confirms that you are an intellectual coward and impotent who hides behind self projection.

You said that black kids are getting into colleges when the white students are not and the whites had better grades. Yet, you offered NO EVIDENCE to support that statement.

That statement was not based on fact, but belief that you have, based on your own selective perceptions. There is much more to Affirmative Action that you don’t understand.

Clearly, you are of the belief that Affirmative Action is to make things right for blacks who are inferior to the whites who are being displaced by them.

    Affirmative Action:

[The principle of affirmative action stipulates --- to treat unequals as equals is to perpetuate inequality.[3] Affirmative action is seen by its proponents as a foundational principle of democratic societies such as India, that seek to redress imbalances, due to disproportionate representation of underprivileged sections of society in governmental, educational and industrial institutions. Proponents of affirmative action argue, that the disproportionate representations, results from covert, institutionalized and involuntary forms of discriminations that permeates the fabric of society; particularly in societies that have had a long history of racial, ethinic, or sex based discrimination. Such acts of discrimination may take many forms. Some are overt such as stereotypes (eg. women are only fit to be secretaries and housewives, and blacks are great entertainers and sportsmen—modern day gladiators but little else). Others are covert, such as “old boys” clubs, that tend to favor racially akin new members.]

  • sayanything-1714

By all means continue to “win friends and influence people”, just don’t blow a fuse ;) .

Some of your ladies and gentlemen may be familiar with CJ at LGF recently going bonkers. Some people still wonder why.The answer is simple. Charlie, not much unlike Hanni here, is a subscriber of moral relativity. In other words, nothing is absolute in his mind except his own belief in being the absolutely correct judge of things (those of you who are Christians, think of it as ultimate subscriber to “And you shall be like God, knowing good and evil”) . As time goes by a moral relativist finds it easier to change the morals along the way to fit his particular mood and position instead of experiencing consequences for the previous decision. That’s why what was relativist’s war cry yesterday is often a point of frowning upon today, even though the situation in question itself hasn’t changed, but the position to be taken for benefit in some other area has. The most glaring example in public view is Afghanistan. So there you have it.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Many people who are racist don’t recognize they are racist. You should probably look into that.

    Sigh…liberals.

Hannitized’s comment kind of reminds me of a quote I saw in the newspaper here a while back. As some of you know, the UND “Fighting Sioux” logo has been contorversial for some time now. So a tribe of actual Sioux Indians voted on whether or not they support the logo.

The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the logo.

The quote from the liberal pants wetters who have been opposing the logo? “We didn’t have time to go out and educate the voters.”

Yes, these mostly white liberal university types didn’ thave enough time to go out and tell the Natives how offended they should be.

Just like Hannitized seems to think we can hate people without actually knowing we hate people.

Actually, smart purchasers of real estate can and do make sure that those who need to DRIVE to a worksite actually can. It’s listed in most applications for construction related jobs.

And ahem, definition 2 does demonstrate that discrimination on racial grounds is racism, and anyone that can think ought to able to conclude that, barring insanity, discrimination on racial grounds would imply a reason to do so.

Called “racism.” You need to assume that the Kleagles at the Baltimore NAACP have a reason to argue that a black man would be better than a white man for the mayorship.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

    Unless your job includes driving.

And driving record is not equivalent to race.

  • sayanything-7743

Unless it is some racial thing, I am not eactly sure what Cheatham point is. While Maryland’s current Governor, Martin O’Malley, is a white male of Irish decent, prior to being elcted Governor, he was twice elected Mayor of Baltimore with huge victories. While Baltimore City does have a diverse population, Mr. Cheatham is right, it is predominantly African-American city who elected Marty Mayor and to the City council before that. Unless you consider O’Malley’s token effort to get crime under control in the City, he did nothing to propose or advance a conservative agenda or make any changes to status quo. Prior to winning her own election, Mayor Dixon was president of the City Council and was appointed Mayor to serve out the remainder of Omalley’s term when Marty left Baltimore to head to Annapolis. OMalley is hard core Democrat and I really doubt he would appoint a Republican to that office. To me that only leaves one reason for them to make this statement.

  • spartacus

My, my madam. I am impressed with your ability to diagnose psychiatric illnesses from afar.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Affirmative action requires that a workplace reflect some arbitrary definition of diversity instead of a group of the best people available to hire.

Thus, in individual hiring decisions, skin color and gender must be considered alongside merit. So, as an example, if an employer wants to hire the more-qualified white guy (not to suggest that white guys are always more qualified, this is just an illustration) but is afraid of being accused of having too many white guys employed he’ll probably higher the (in this example) less qualified black guy.

Of course, that situation never works the other way for white guys. There’d never be a business worried about employing too many minorities.

    And that’s unfair.

  • sayanything-1317

I’ve never met a racist who didn’t know they were a racist. Indeed, most racists make no secret of their hatred of other colors of people. Now I’ve met a great many people accused of racism for some small thing that weren’t racist, but were labelled as such. Being labelled a racist, and being a racist are two different things.

The difference between discrimination based on race, and racism is just the follow through. Both are based on racism, but while one can be a racist without discriminating in policy, one cannot deliberately discriminate in policy without being racist.

But the nonsense quote of the day has to be JHM who sees no difference between disliking someone based on the color of their skin and not liking a person based on who they are. Mindless pap of the day award!

  • sayanything-8436

Really, what’s so terrible about being a racist? Are there different levels of hate? Are some hatreds more politically correct than others? The libs hate the conservatives, the conservatives hate the libs, and the straights hate the gays. The Muslims hate the jews and Christians, and many of the Naive Americans hate us all. I don’t see any difference between hating someone because of the color of their skin, or their religion, sexual orientation, or whatever. Hate is hate.

  • bikebubba

Um, Hannitized, the 2nd line of your own definition of racism notes that “discrimination” is properly used as a synonym for racism.

“2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.”

Have you considered “Hooked on Phonics” to improve your reading comprehension?

It is a delightful irony that the Baltimore NAACP now finds itself in the same group that features Bull Connor! Hopefully they lose this one decisively–maybe the good residents of Baltimore can then have competent, lawful government.

  • sayanything-3444

Number one – what a blatantly obvious, racist thing to say. But the fact that it came from the NAACP means it can’t be racist, because we know that minorities by definition can’t be racists – right?!

Actually, I do have an issue with political appointments like this though. I think the people of Baltimore should have the right to elect a mayor in the event that Dixon is convicted. A free election might result in a white Irish guy winning, but if that’s the people’s choice then why not?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

The sad thing is, if some conservative group leader had said “Gee, I
