AUDIO: Palin Doesn’t Rule Out Third Party Run In Interview

Talk radio host Lars Larson asked Sarah Palin if she’d be interested in running on a third party ticket. While Palin didn’t specifically rule out a third party run, when you read her comments closely it’s clear she’s not exactly chomping at the bit to make one either.

LARSON: Governor, I know you’ve successfully dodged the question on a thousand interviews on whether or not you’re going to run, but if run again, for something, whatever it is, would you run as a third-party candidate?
PALIN: That depends on how things go in the next couple of years.
LARSON: That sounds like a yes.
PALIN: Well, you know, it really does depend on — I think there are enough Republicans who are realizing, ‘Oh, whoops, some of those liberal Republicans have screwed up’ — I’m including myself in that group — enough liberal Republicans have screwed up, and … the base of our party is common-sense conservatives, not obsessively partisan, but just wanting common-sense, free market principles, strong military principles to be implemented to get our country on the right track. And if the Republican Party gets back to that base, our party is going to be stronger and there’s not going to be a need for a third party. But I’ll play that by ear in the coming months, coming years.

I think this is more of a tease than anything else. Clearly, the GOP as a disillusionment problem. It’s been plaguing them since before 2006 (that’s why they lost their majorities in Congress) and they’re just starting to come to grips with it now. But setting aside for a moment whether or not she’s right, it sounds like Palin is banking on the GOP coming to grips with the divides in its base.
Will that happen? And if it doesn’t, will Palin actually go third party? It’s hard to say. But if the GOP doesn’t start to get it I’d support someone like Palin going third party.
Sure, that all bug guarantees liberal victories. But why let Republicans win victories if they aren’t going to actually be conservatives?

Read Sarah’s book. She answers the question there. I really like Sarah…but if she goes third party I’m done with her as would be many other common sense conservative…Reagan knew better than that, which is why he got behind Ford after the ’76 endorsement. Sarah will do the same. She’s young, she has time, and knows what’s right! Which is why I like her. she know that 3rd parties are disasters and she wants what is best for the country.

Third Party is a disaster for real Americans, and will prevent us from taking back our country from Obama and his Merry band of Marxists. Bad idea.
Sarah is smarter than that, but the leftie media must twist and spin, in its fear-based obsession with her.

Third party campaigns have never been successful. Palin knows that and is smart enough to know that she can’t win that way.

BUT, if she does decide to go that route, AND the GOP fails once again to field a true CONSERVATIVE candidate with a genuine plan to improve the economy, provide a realistic approcah to the health care problems, and to combat all of Obama’s efforts to destroy American capitalism, I will jump ship immediately and support Palin to the ultimate of my abilities. I absolutely refuse to cast another vote while holding my nose.

I am not in the camp that thinks Palin can win, yet! But, when I look around, who else in the GOP has her charisma, her oratorical skills, her commitment to conservative values and has some idea where we are and where we need to be as a party?

I partly agree with “why let Republicans win victories if they aren’t going to actually be conservatives?” Yet, what happens if we get a third party candidate and a strong Republican gets nominated by that party? Will Palin’s presence guarantee that strong GOP candidate loses and we get four more years of Obama? God help us!

One thing off topic slightly that does bother me, no one in the GOP has stepped up to the podium with a clear, comprehensive, free market alternative to Obamacare. We cannot win by just saying Obamacare is bad for the country, it is, but the people need to hear an alternative they can get behind. “A Contract With America on Health Care!”

I pray someone in the Crazy Wing of the GOP runs as a 3rd party candidate.

It will guarantee the re-election of Barack Obama.

Third party is the last resort. But if the entrenched GOP leaders don’t show some respect for the tea party types than they’re in a lot of trouble.

  • jimmypop

if she goes third party, gop get ready for another ross perot. i bet she gets more than 19%. I will happily have her sign in my yard.

i will also create a composite liberal and gop sign with McSame on them.

I’m afraid Neiman’s right. Palin’s got support but she isn’t very likely to
    win a general election.

A last resort and a guarantee of four more years of Democrats.

    send cash!

a third party spoiler candidate! she’s good for what, 6%? that’s more than enough. obama could just go on vacation and still win the next term.

    it’s strategically asinine.

she should run on the ‘free alaska’ ticket!

  • sayanything-4416

    That would be most excellent.
