Associated Press: Repent, Global Warming Skeptics, For The End Is Near

According to the Associated Press, if The One doesn’t make good on that promise to heal the planet and make the oceans stop rising we’re all gonna die. Under the headline “Obama left with little time to curb global warming,” reporter Seth Borenstein writes:

WASHINGTON (AP) – When Bill Clinton took office in 1993, global warming was a slow-moving environmental problem that was easy to ignore. Now it is a ticking time bomb that President-elect Barack Obama can’t avoid.
Since Clinton’s inauguration, summer Arctic sea ice has lost the equivalent of Alaska, California and Texas. The 10 hottest years on record have occurred since Clinton’s second inauguration. Global warming is accelerating. Time is close to running out, and Obama knows it.
“The time for delay is over; the time for denial is over,” he said on Tuesday after meeting with former Vice President Al Gore, who won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work on global warming. “We all believe what the scientists have been telling us for years now that this is a matter of urgency and national security and it has to be dealt with in a serious way.”
But there are powerful political and economic realities that must be quickly overcome for Obama to succeed. Despite the urgency he expresses, it’s not at all clear that he and Congress will agree on an approach during a worldwide financial crisis in time to meet some of the more crucial deadlines.

“Scientists” are apparently in a tizzy because things are going extinct!

Scientists are increasingly anxious, talking more often and more urgently about exceeding “tipping points.”
“We’re out of time,” Stanford University biologist Terry Root said. “Things are going extinct.”

Of course, animals and plants have been going extinct for eons. Long before Al Gore, Hummers and cow flatulence. So what’s to suggest that current extinctions, and even current warming/cooling trends, are necessarily being caused by human activity? We know, for a fact, that the earth has gone through warming and cooling trends much more drastic than anything we’ve seen in recorded history long before humans were on earth. We also know that many species of animals evolved into existence, lived, and then went into extinction before humans ever walked the earth.
So why is human activity suddenly the cause now? And why are we so arrogant as to think we can stop it? And while media types like to make broad allusions to scientists who believe in anthropogenic global warming, and are even alarmed by it, it’s worth remembering that there are a lot of scientists who are very skeptical of climate change alarmism. Including these 650 which include among the Nobel Prize winners.
I think it’s worth remembering that most, if not all, of the global warming hysteria is driven by people with an interest in either selling newspapers or using climate change as an excuse to expand their power and control. After all, what better excuse to tax and regulate everything than a crisis that names the very air we exhale, not to mention the farts we and our animal comrades emit, as “pollution.”
And then there’s this, again from the AP article linked above:

Ironically, 2008 is on pace to be a slightly cooler year in a steadily rising temperature trend line. Experts say it’s thanks to a La Nina weather variation. While skeptics are already using it as evidence of some kind of cooling trend, it actually illustrates how fast the world is warming.

Cool is warm. Up is down. Black is white.
Who are you going to believe? The AP, or your lying eyes?

The more things change, the more they stay the same. All this hype over gloabal warming and unconnected status we have with government reminds me of the Jimmy Carter days. The rhetoric and psychology of the Democrats today parallels the Carter era, including the ecology hype.

This time around the left will use the AGW rhetoric to undermine national sovernty while China continues to grow into a super power. Obama will punish the traditional energy producers while he does nothing to increase nuclear power. The solar and wind options will fail miserably to supply the energy we need for economic growth.

    Welcome back Carter.

If Al Gore is right where did the polar bears we have now come from?

They all should have died and the species gone extinct hundreds of times in the past. Find a Lefty who’ll admit that and you’ll have accomplished something.

Man-made global warming is nothing but a scam. That’s all it is and all it ever was.

Anyone who says it’s not is nothing but a lying idiot, possibly a well meaning one but a lying idiot nonetheless.

BTW, polar bears fart and add methane to the environment too. Maybe they should go extinct.

The “temperature trendline” is not rising, and has not been for quite some time now. And as for the Arctic Ice Cap loosing the equivalent “Alaska, California and Texas”, yep, happens every year, and then refreezes, every year.

What would be wrong with being as warm as Medieval or Roman times?

And how exactly did it get that warm then.

20 years from now Global Warming will be seen as the greatest hoax in human history.

I disagree. I think 20 years from now the Democrats will campaign on how they saved the world from inevitable doom despite the Republican’s attempts to thwart humanity. Don’t forget that you’re in the spin zone. Plus the fact that they hold a monopoly on the government school system, and are pretty much rewriting history as we speak.

The sad fact is that there are now very few places to turn for real news and not just biased and agendized opinion. In principle, all scientific theories are open to falsification by new evidence and therefore no science can ever be entirely certain. In practice, however, many areas of science are sufficiently well grounded in reliable evidence to be accepted beyond reasonable doubt. But climate science is not among them.

There are vast tracts of Alaska, Canada, Siberia, etc. that could be colonized…Hell, Greenland would be green again…The Brits could make terrible wine again…Could one of you bug-eyed eco-lunatics tell me how you explain millenia of habitability in these frozen wastelands? How did the supposed “indiginous” peoples of the Americas get here again?

The earth cycles, WITHOUT our help. Get used to it. This GW scam is just that, a scam designed as a money grab and political consolidation…

…Even the great Nuclear Winter collectivist Carl Sagan said that to believe that man has that kind of influence on this planet is arrogant ignorance

I wouldn’t mind a little global warming here in Fargo right now. My pickup was coming up with noises I’ve never heard before on my trip home at 12 below.

At 05:40 this morning it was 61 here on the hill. 40 right now, though it is supposed to drop off sharply over night. That southerly flow was just too warm, otherwise we could have had a major snow event over the last couple days, as the perky young ladies on the local weather like to put it.

And why is it that each time a new perky young lady arrives at the local weather desk, within a couple of months she is visibly pregnant? I think it is a conspiracy.

The politicization of science is a bad thing. What can we believe?
